Public Health Department Maharashtra Medical Officer, Group-A (S-20) Eligibility Criteria 2026
- For Medical Officer (MBBS) – 766 Posts: MBBS degree from a statutory university OR equivalent qualification as specified in the First or Second Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956).
- For Medical Officer (Specialist) – 674 Posts: Postgraduate Degree/Diploma in the specified subjects (as mentioned in Para 4.2 of the advertisement) from a statutory university, OR PG Degree/Diploma equivalent as specified in the First or Second Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.
- Internship: Candidates must have completed their Internship on or before the last date of application. The Internship completion certificate must be uploaded with the application; otherwise, the application will be cancelled.
- Registration: A valid Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) / National Medical Commission (NMC) registration certificate or renewal receipt as on the date of application is mandatory. Without this, the application will not be accepted.
- Foreign-educated Candidates: Candidates who obtained MBBS from outside India must have cleared the NBE (National Board of Examinations) examination. Their NBE marksheet must be submitted with the application; failure to do so will result in cancellation of application.
- Domicile: Valid Maharashtra Domicile (Adhivas) certificate as on the date of application is mandatory. Benefits of reservation are available only to permanent residents of Maharashtra.
- Candidates other than those holding qualifications mentioned in Para 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3 are not eligible to apply.
- Candidates possessing PG qualification in subjects other than those notified (Para 4.2) may apply as plain MBBS candidates, subject to their written consent in the application form.
- Currently serving regular Medical Officers of Maharashtra Medical and Health Service Group-A (S-20) are NOT eligible to apply.

Public Health Department Maharashtra Medical Officer, Group-A (S-20) Salary 2026
- Pay Scale: 7th Pay Commission Pay Level S-20 – Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month.
- Promotion opportunity is available to Maharashtra Medical and Health Service Group-A (S-23, Pay Level Rs. 67,700 – 2,08,700) subject to fulfilling the required qualifications for that post.
- Selected candidates cannot engage in any kind of private practice; however, they will be entitled to Practice Prohibition Allowance as per rules.
- All persons appointed shall be covered by the Contributory Pension Scheme as per Odisha Civil Service (Pension) Amendment Rules (reference: service rules applicable to the post).
- Selected candidates will have a probation period of 2 years.
- Specialist candidates placed as plain MBBS (due to non-availability of specialist posts) will not be entitled to 3/6 additional increments at the time of appointment.

Public Health Department Maharashtra Medical Officer, Group-A (S-20) Selection Process 2026
- Selection will be based on a Merit List prepared on the basis of marks/weightage assigned as per the scoring system (no written examination).
- Scoring System (Total: 100 Marks) for MBBS candidates:
- Average percentage of marks secured in all years of MBBS degree: Up to 50 marks (converted from percentage to 50 marks).
- PG Degree / Diploma (if held): 20 marks
- Experience as Contract/Bond Medical Officer in Government Service: Up to 30 marks (maximum):
- For every 11 months of service in Tribal / Naxal-affected / Hilly areas: 10 marks
- For every 11 months of service in Non-tribal / Non-naxal / Non-hilly areas: 05 marks
- For Specialist candidates: separate merit lists will be prepared subject-wise (Specialist) and for plain MBBS, in the following priority order:
- Super Specialist
- MD / MS / DNB
- Diploma from recognized university
- FCPS
- For foreign-educated candidates, NBE examination marks will be considered for screening.
- A list of eligible candidates will be published on the official website after scrutiny of applications.
- Selected candidates will be required to furnish a bond stating willingness to serve for a minimum of 5 years or pay the prescribed penalty as decided by Government from time to time.
