Punjab and Sind Bank Recruitment 2026 - Selection Process
The bank will use a multi-stage selection process for all posts. All three scales - SMGS IV, MMGS III, and MMGS II - follow the same procedure: Written Test → Short-listing → Personal Interview.
The written test, where conducted, will have the following structure:
| Section | Questions | Maximum Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| English Language | 20 | 20 | 15 minutes |
| General Awareness | 20 | 20 | 30 minutes |
| Professional Knowledge | 60 | 60 | 60 minutes |
| Total | 100 | 100 | 105 minutes |
The minimum qualifying score in each section is 40% for General and EWS candidates and 35% for Reserved Category candidates. However, only Professional Knowledge marks are used for drawing the merit/rank list and shortlisting candidates for the Personal Interview; marks in English Language and General Awareness are not included in the final merit calculation.
Candidates clearing the written test are called for a Personal Interview. The minimum qualifying score for the interview is 40% for Unreserved and EWS candidates and 35% for Reserved categories. Final selection is based on the combined marks from the written test and Personal Interview, in order of merit ranking. Where two candidates tie at the cut-off, they are ranked in descending order of age.
The Personal Interview will be conducted in New Delhi unless otherwise specified. Call letters will be sent by email only. Candidates must attend at their own cost.
The bank shortlists candidates based on experience and suitability at its own discretion - meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call.
Examination Centres
The bank has designated examination centres across India. Candidates may opt for a centre in their state, subject to availability. The bank reserves the right to allot a different centre or cancel/add centres. No request for a change of examination centre, date, or session will be entertained. Selected centres include: Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Guwahati (Assam), Patna and Bhagalpur (Bihar), Chandigarh/Mohali, Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Delhi/Delhi-NCR, Panaji (Goa), Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Ambala (Haryana), Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh), Jammu (J&K), Bengaluru (Karnataka), Ernakulam (Kerala), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Mumbai/Thane/Navi Mumbai/MMR (Maharashtra), Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Patiala (Punjab), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Hyderabad (Telangana), Prayagraj, Lucknow and Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), Dehradun (Uttarakhand), and Asansol and Siliguri (West Bengal), among others.
Terms of Contract
This engagement is on a contractual basis, not a regular/permanent appointment. The initial period is three years, subject to annual performance review. Depending on need and performance, the bank may extend the contract on an annual basis for up to a maximum of two additional years at its discretion.
The bank may terminate the contract at any time without assigning any reason by giving one month's notice or paying one month's fixed component of compensation in lieu. Similarly, the appointee must give the bank one month's clear notice - or equivalent payment - to exit the contract before its expiry.
Additional conditions: the selected individual must not take up any assignment with any other organization during the contract period; no vigilance case or adverse observation from previous employers should be pending; and the candidate must have a minimum CIBIL score of 650 at the time of joining.

No documents should be sent directly to the bank before or after the interview.
Troubleshooting & Common Mistakes
Photo/Signature upload errors are among the most common reasons for application failure. Ensure your photograph is between 20 KB and 50 KB and your signature between 10 KB and 20 KB. Files larger than the specified limit will be rejected by the system. Use a scanner set to at least 200 DPI and save files in JPG/JPEG format. All supporting documents must be in PDF format.
Payment gateway failures can occur during high-traffic periods near the deadline. If a payment is deducted but the fee status is not updated, wait 24 hours and check again before attempting re-payment; duplicate payments are generally not refunded. Avoid applying on the last day to reduce the risk of server overload.
Hand-written declaration errors are a unique pitfall in this recruitment. The declaration must be in English, in the candidate's own handwriting, in lowercase (not capital letters). A typed or third-party-written declaration will invalidate the application.
Name mismatches between the application and identity documents can cause disqualification at any stage. Ensure the name (and father's/husband's name where applicable) is spelled exactly as it appears on your certificates and mark sheets. Candidates who have changed their name must produce an original Gazette notification, marriage certificate, or affidavit.
CIBIL score is a condition of joining, not selection. Candidates are advised to check their CIBIL score before applying - a score below 650 will disqualify them at the time of joining even if selected.
