The Clerk typing test is a computer-based test in English. It is the first phase of the Clerk selection process. The official typing test guide gives the following details.

How Is Typing Speed Calculated in the SKAU Typing Test?
SKAU has published a formula for the net typing speed. One word is counted as 5 strokes, including spaces. Every error and every skipped word leads to a deduction of 5 strokes.

How the Typing Test Works on the Computer
The official step-by-step guide explains the test process as follows.
- Open the typing test software on the desktop and check that the keyboard and mouse allotted to you work properly.
- Select the declaration confirming that you have checked the keyboard and mouse, then click Next.
- On the login window, enter your Roll Number and Batch Number as printed on the admit card, and the Batch ID that is told to you in the examination hall.
- The typing window has two parts. The upper part shows the text to be typed and the lower part is where you type.
- Press the Space Bar to start the test. The text appears and the timer starts together.
- When the time is over, a time-up message appears and an evaluation sheet is generated.
SKAU Typing Test Instructions for Candidates
These instructions come from the official typing test instruction sheet. Read them before the exam.
- Check that Caps Lock and Num Lock are in the correct state before you start.
- Type in sync with the text highlighted in red in the upper half of the window. Content typed out of sync is counted as errors, and a skipped or missed word is also an error.
- You can correct a mistake in a word with the Backspace key only before you press the Space Bar. Once the Space Bar is pressed after a word, that word cannot be corrected.
- Key combinations such as Ctrl+F4, Alt+F4, Ctrl+Esc, Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Alt+Tab, Alt+Space, Alt+Esc, the right-click key and the Windows key with a function key are not allowed.
- Using a prohibited key or tampering with the data or software can lead to cancellation of candidature and action under the Information Technology Act, 2000.
- Do not look at other candidates' screens and do not talk to each other.
- Mobile phones, pagers and other communication devices are not allowed inside the exam centre.
