Vacancy Details

Panel Preparation: A panel of candidates will be prepared from this walk-in test for future requirements, if any.

Eligibility Criteria

Caste Eligibility (Mandatory)

• Exclusive for SC (Scheduled Caste) and ST (Scheduled Tribe) candidates only.
• Not open to General category candidates.
• Not open to OBC candidates.
• Candidates must be domiciled in Kerala or have valid residence in Kerala (candidates should confirm any specific residency requirement with ICRI/Spices Board).

Educational Qualification (Essential)

• Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (M.Lib / M.Sc Library Science) from a recognized University/Institute.
• Degree must be from an accredited/recognized institution.
• Regular full-time course only; part-time or distance education is not accepted.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 30 years.
• Age as on: 26-02-2026 (date of walk-in test).
• Age calculation based on Date of Birth as on 26-02-2026.
• No age relaxation for any category; strict upper age limit applies.

Ineligibility Conditions

• Candidates who have previously completed training in any of the offices of the Spices Board are not eligible to apply again.
• Candidates not belonging to SC/ST category.
• Candidates exceeding 30 years of age as on 26-02-2026.

Stipend, Leave & Benefits

Stipend & Remuneration

• Monthly stipend: Rs. 21,000/- per month.
• Annual stipend value: Approximately Rs. 2,52,000/- for one year.
• Stipend will be paid on a monthly basis.

Leave Entitlements

• Casual Leave: 1 day per month.
• Total casual leave: 12 days per year.
• Other leave: As per norms applicable to training positions of Spices Board/Government guidelines.

• Hands-on training in library management and information science.
• Exposure to the functioning of a research library at Indian Cardamom Research Institute (ICRI).
• Opportunity to work under Spices Board, Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
• No accommodation or food facility provided; candidates must arrange their own stay.

Training Duration & Terms

Duration

• Initial training period: One year from the date of joining.
• Extension: May be extended for one more year (total up to 2 years) based on: performance during the first year, availability of funds, continuation of project/position, and approval of the Director.

Training Terms & Conditions

• Training location is fixed at Indian Cardamom Research Institute, Myladumpara, Idukki, Kerala.
• No transfer or relocation to other centers during the training period.
• Trainees must follow all rules and regulations of ICRI and Spices Board.
• This is a training position only and does not confer any right for permanent employment in Spices Board.

Walk-in Test Details

Test Location & Travel

• Location: Indian Cardamom Research Institute, Myladumpara, Idukki, Kerala.
• Distance from Cochin (Kochi): Approximately 100–120 km (about 2.5–3 hours journey, depending on route and traffic).
• Nearest Railway Stations: Aluva or Ernakulam (main stations) – around 100+ km away.
• Nearest Airport: Cochin International Airport – around 100+ km away.
• Candidates must arrange their own travel and accommodation at their own cost (no TA/DA provided).

Documents Required for Walk-in Test

1. Application Form (Annexure I)

• Download Annexure I (Application Form) for Library Trainee from the Spices Board website or collect it at the venue.
• Fill in all details completely in your own handwriting.
• Ensure you sign the application form.
• Mention the subject as: “Application for Library Trainee”.

2. Photographs

• Recent passport-size colour photograph (4x6 cm or 2x2 inches).
• Bring at least 2–3 copies.

3. Original Certificates

• Proof of Identity: Original Voter ID, Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Driving License, or Passport.
• Proof of Age: Original 10th Standard Certificate or Birth Certificate or any government-issued document containing Date of Birth.
• Educational Certificates: Original Master’s Degree certificate in Library and Information Science and relevant mark sheets from a recognized university/institute.
• Caste Certificate: Original SC/ST caste certificate issued by competent authority (mandatory).

4. Self-Attested Photocopies

• One complete set of self-attested photocopies of: proof of identity, proof of age, educational qualification certificates, and caste certificate.
• Attach 2 copies of the passport-size photograph (self-attested, if required).
• All photocopies should be stapled together along with the filled application form.
• Candidate must sign on each photocopy for self-attestation.

Important Notes on Documents

• All original certificates will be verified at the venue during the walk-in test.
• In case of any discrepancy in name/address between documents, submit supporting government-issued proof (e.g., Ration Card, Voter ID, Gazette notification etc.).
• Bring all documents properly arranged in a file/folder or envelope.
• Do not rely only on digital copies; original documents are mandatory for verification.

Selection Process

Walk-in Test Process

• Reporting to the venue before 10:30 AM on 26-02-2026.
• On-the-spot registration and submission of application form and photocopies.
• Verification of original certificates and eligibility (SC/ST status, age, educational qualification, previous training status).
• Walk-in test/interview conducted on the same day (test format/mode will be decided by ICRI/Spices Board and informed at the venue).
• Merit-based selection among eligible candidates who qualify in the walk-in test.
• Result may be communicated at the venue or later via phone/email/SMS as decided by the Board.

Selection Criteria

• Performance and merit in the walk-in test.
• Fulfillment of all eligibility conditions: valid SC/ST category, age limit, and educational qualification.
• Possession of genuine Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from a recognized university.
• Non-violation of ineligibility criteria (such as prior training in Spices Board).

Rank List Validity

• A rank list will be prepared based on the walk-in test.
• The rank list will be valid for two years only from the date of its preparation.
• Future selections (if required) for the Library Trainee position at ICRI may be made from this list within the validity period.
• After two years, a fresh recruitment process will be conducted, if needed.

How to Appear for the Walk-in Test

Step 1: Check Eligibility

• Ensure you belong to SC or ST category with valid caste certificate.
• Confirm that you possess a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (M.Lib / M.Sc Library Science).
• Verify that your age does not exceed 30 years as on 26-02-2026.
• Ensure you have not previously undergone training in any office of the Spices Board.

Step 2: Download Application Form

• If unable to download, you may obtain the application form directly from the walk-in test venue on the test date.

Step 3: Arrange Documents

• Gather all original certificates: identity, age, educational qualifications, and SC/ST caste certificate.
• Prepare one set of self-attested photocopies of all the above documents.
• Keep 2–3 recent passport-size colour photographs ready.
• Organize all documents along with the filled application form in a neat folder.

Step 4: Travel to the Venue

• Venue: Indian Cardamom Research Institute, Myladumpara, Kailasanadu (PO), Idukki District, Kerala – 685553.
• Plan your travel so that you can reach well before 10:30 AM on 26-02-2026.
• Arrange your own transportation and accommodation, if required, as no TA/DA or lodging is provided.

Step 5: Participate in the Walk-in Test

• Report at the registration desk with your filled application form and documents.
• Complete registration and undergo document verification.
• Appear for the walk-in test/interview as per the schedule announced at the venue.
• Wait for further communication or declaration of results as informed by the authorities.
