Supreme Court JCA Exam Pattern 2026
The selection has four stages. Candidates must score at least the minimum qualifying marks in every stage to move ahead.
How candidates move from one stage to the next
- Objective test: If many candidates score 50 or more, only those ranked up to 10 times the number of vacancies (about 2,500 for 250 posts) go to the next stage.
- Typing and descriptive tests: Both are held at the second stage, but descriptive answer sheets are checked only for candidates who pass the typing test.
- Interview: Candidates who clear all three tests are called in a 1:3 ratio against the vacancies (about 750 for 250 posts).
Is There Negative Marking in the Supreme Court JCA Exam?
Yes. Each correct answer carries 1 mark and each wrong answer leads to a deduction of 0.25 marks. Unanswered questions carry no deduction. Some websites mention no negative marking, which appears to refer to the earlier recruitment cycle, so check the official 2026 notification on www.sci.gov.in before the exam.

Preparation Tips for Supreme Court JCA Exam 2026
- Prioritise the law sections: 35 of the 100 questions come from the judiciary provisions in the Constitution, Supreme Court Rules, 2013 and the 1961 Service Rules. Study Articles 124 to 147 and 214 to 231 from the bare text, and read both rule books directly.
- Do not guess blindly: A wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, so skip a pure guess.
- Treat typing as a gate: The descriptive paper is checked only if you pass the typing test. Practise daily with accurate capitals and punctuation, and aim above 35 words per minute for safety.
- Practise writing: Write one precis and one essay each week in English and time yourself against the 2-hour limit.
- Keep up with current affairs: General Knowledge has 15 questions and the topic list is wide.
- Watch for updates: Check www.sci.gov.in and your registered email and phone number for later stage dates and admit cards.
