GATE Eligibility Criteria 2026 for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) allows candidates who are currently in the 3rd year or higher of any undergraduate degree program or have completed any government-approved degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities to appear for the exam.
IIT Guwahati is the Organizing Institute for GATE 2026. Candidates must be currently studying in the 3rd year or higher, or have already completed a government-approved qualifying degree. There is no minimum percentage required in the qualifying degree. A candidate can choose up to two papers from the allowed combinations.

GATE Eligibility 2026 - Age Limit
There is no age limit for GATE 2026. Candidates of any age who meet the educational qualification can apply.
GATE Eligibility 2026 - Nationality
- Indian nationals are eligible.
- Candidates from Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia, UAE, and other specified countries can also apply if they fulfill the educational criteria. International candidates typically need to appear for the exam at designated centers in India.
GATE Eligibility 2026 - Number of Attempts Limit
There is no limit on the number of attempts. You can appear for GATE as many times as you want. The GATE score is valid for three years from the date of result announcement.
