Important Instructions
- Check the criteria for the cycle. The next cycle is for the semester beginning Jan 2027. The eligibility criteria and brochure from the July 2026 round are only a reference and might change.
- Apply only through the right channel. IIT Hyderabad has a centralized online application portal for Ph.D admission, and candidates must apply through it. The exception is QIP: for QIP admissions you must apply through the AICTE website, not the IITH portal.
- Meet the eligibility before applying. In the July 2026 round, Regular Ph.D needed an ME/M.Tech/MS or equivalent with First Class without GATE. An M.Sc. with First Class needed GATE/CSIR/UGC/DST-Inspire or equivalent. Direct Ph.D needed a BE/B.Tech or equivalent from CFIs with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 without GATE. First class means 60% or CGPA 6.0, with 10% relaxation for OBC and 15% for SC/ST. Requirements vary by department.
- Expect shortlisting, then a test or interview. For the January round, shortlisted candidates may be invited directly to one or more rounds of online interviews. The written test is typically held in the July round. Departments can also set their own cut-offs.
- Keep your funding and documents ready. Students are funded by IITH through Ministry of Education funding. Candidates with INSPIRE or CSIR-UGC NET JRF funding can also apply. Candidates must upload all necessary documents through the online portal at the time of admission. Admissions are provisional until all documents are provided
