Competition Level Analysis for OSSC CTSRE 2025 Recruitment

The competition level for OSSC CTSRE 2025 is expected to be high given the 646 Group-B/C technical vacancies open to diploma holders in civil engineering, architecture, and media/AV disciplines across Odisha. The Preliminary Examination, being a general aptitude paper at 10th standard level, will attract a wide pool of aspirants including those already preparing for other state-level exams. The largest chunk of vacancies — 606 seats — is under Junior Engineer (Civil) across three departments, making it the most sought-after post.

The effective competition narrows significantly at Stage-II as the Technical Paper is post-specific and tests core subject knowledge, naturally filtering out those with weak technical preparation. Candidates with strong AutoCAD, computer literacy, or AV production skills will have a clear edge in the specialty posts. Since allotment is based on merit-cum-preference, accuracy in both stages and a well-thought-out preference list are critical to securing the desired post and department.

Who should NOT apply for OSSC CTSRE 2025 Recruitment?

  • Candidates who do not hold the relevant Diploma/Degree/Certificate qualification for the specific post they intend to apply for.
  • Candidates outside the age band of 21–42 years as on 01-01-2025 (except as per applicable relaxations for SEBC/SC/ST/Women/PwD/Ex-Servicemen).
  • Candidates who cannot read, write, and speak Odia fluently and do not have the required proof (Middle School/HSC with Odia, or equivalent).
  • Candidates who are not Indian Citizens.
  • Candidates who have submitted more than one application for the same examination; only the last valid completed application will be retained and extra fees forfeited.
  • Candidates with "likely to improve" (temporary disability) certificate under PwD category; such certificates are not eligible for PwD reservation benefits.
  • CRPF, BSF, Indian Coast Guard and other Para Military Forces personnel claiming Ex-Servicemen status; they do not fall under the definition of Ex-Servicemen for this recruitment.
  • Currently serving defence personnel with more than six months of service remaining as of the last date of online application registration, unless applying with a valid NOC indicating expected date of discharge.
  • Candidates who are Government servants or PSU employees and cannot produce a valid No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their competent controlling authority.

Common mistakes / What to check before applying OSSC CTSRE 2025?

  • Applying for a post for which you do not possess the exact qualification prescribed (e.g., applying for Junior Engineer Civil without a Diploma in Civil Engineering from an OSSC-recognised institution).
  • Entering wrong category (UR/SEBC/SC/ST); mismatch with certificates at Document Verification can lead to cancellation of candidature.
  • Not checking whether your Odia language proof (Middle School/HSC certificate) satisfies the mandatory Odia language eligibility condition.
  • Not mentioning bank account details correctly in the online application form; incorrect or inactive bank accounts will prevent refund of examination fees.
  • Choosing medium of examination (Odia or English) carelessly; option once given in the application cannot be changed later.
  • Not giving post/service preferences carefully; allotment is on the basis of merit-cum-preference and once allotted, no change of post is made by the Commission.
  • Uploading blurred or incorrectly sized photo or signature, causing rejection at scrutiny stage.
  • Using inactive mobile number or email ID and missing important notifications, admit cards, or commission communications.
  • Ignoring negative marking in both stages and over-attempting questions, which can sharply reduce the score.
  • Government servants/PSU employees failing to upload a valid NOC along with the online application.
