OSSTET 2026 Exam Pattern
OSSTET 2026 will be conducted in two papers depending on the category chosen: Paper-I for Category I (Education Teachers) and Paper-II for Category II (Physical Education Teacher). Each paper is of 2 hours 30 minutes duration, contains multiple-choice questions worth 1 mark each with four options, and has no negative marking. Each paper is divided into four sections.
Paper-I (Category I – Education Teachers)
| Section | Subject | No. of Questions | Full Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | Odia (compulsory for all) | 20 | 20 |
| II | English (compulsory for all) | 20 | 20 |
| III | Stream-wise subject (see below) | 60 | 60 |
| IV | Child Development, Pedagogy, School Management & Evaluation (compulsory) | 50 | 50 |
Section III varies by stream: TGT (Arts) covers Odia, English, History & Political Science, and Geography & Economics (15 marks each); TGT (Science) PCM covers Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry (20 marks each); TGT (Science) CBZ covers Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology (20 marks each); and the Classical Teacher (Sanskrit/Telugu/Urdu) and Hindi Teacher streams have 60 marks dedicated entirely to the respective language.
Paper-II (Category II – Physical Education Teacher)
Sections I and II are the same as Paper-I (Odia and English, 20 marks each). Section III covers Physical Education with 60 questions for 60 marks, and Section IV is the same Child Development, Pedagogy, School Management & Evaluation section carrying 50 marks.
Medium of Questions
Sections I (Odia) and II (English) are compulsory for all categories. In Section III, questions for TGT (Arts) and TGT (Science – PCM/CBZ) are set in English, while questions for Classical Teacher (Sanskrit/Telugu/Urdu) and Hindi Teacher are set in the respective language/script. Section III of Paper-II (Physical Education) is in English, and Section IV (Child Development, Pedagogy, School Management & Evaluation) is in English for both categories.
OSSTET 2026 Qualifying Marks
The minimum pass mark in each paper is 45% (68 marks out of 150) for General category candidates, and 35% (53 marks out of 150) for SC/ST/PH/SEBC candidates. A candidate must secure at least the applicable qualifying percentage in each paper to be considered as having qualified OSSTET.
OSSTET 2026 Certificate Validity and Number of Attempts
Successful candidates are awarded the OSSTET Pass Certificate by BSE Odisha. The certificate remains valid until the candidate reaches the upper age limit prescribed for teacher recruitment under applicable rules or government instructions issued from time to time. There is no restriction on the number of attempts a candidate can make to acquire the OSSTET Pass Certificate. Qualifying OSSTET is only one of the eligibility criteria for appointment as a teacher - it does not by itself confer any right to recruitment or employment in a Government or Government-Aided school; actual recruitment eligibility is determined separately by the concerned recruiting agency or appointing authority.
