Eligibility Criteria for Bombay High Court District Judge Recruitment 2026
Educational Qualification:
- Essential: Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized university
- Knowledge of Marathi: Sufficient knowledge of Marathi to enable the candidate to speak, read, write and translate with facility from Marathi into English and vice-versa (mandatory)
Experience Required (as on date of publication of advertisement - 30.01.2026):
- Option 1: Practicing as an Advocate in High Court of Bombay or Courts subordinate thereto OR serving as a Judicial Officer in Maharashtra Judicial Service for not less than 7 years
- While computing the period, the following shall be included:
- Period as Public Prosecutor or Government Advocate or Judicial Officer
- Period worked as Law Clerk (after provisional enrollment/registration as Advocate) with Judges of Bombay High Court or Judicial Officers of subordinate courts
- While computing the period, the following shall be included:
- Option 2: Working or must have worked as Public Prosecutor or Government Advocate for not less than 7 years (period as practicing Advocate shall be included)
- For Serving Judicial Officers: 7 years shall include continuous service as Judicial Officer in Maharashtra Judicial Service plus service (if any) as Public Prosecutor/Government Advocate plus practice (if any) as Advocate plus experience (if any) as Law Clerk
Salary for Bombay High Court District Judge Posts

Selection Process for Bombay High Court District Judge Recruitment 2026
The selection will be based on performance in the following stages:
Stage 1: Preliminary Written Examination (if conducted)
- Multiple choice objective type questions (computer-based evaluation)
- Purpose: Short-listing candidates for Main Written Examination
- Candidates will be called in ratio of 1:10 of advertised vacancies
- Marks NOT counted for final selection
- Separate cut-off marks may be fixed for PwD candidates
- Duration: To be announced
- Exam Centers: Mumbai, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Kolhapur
Stage 2: Main Written Examination
- Number of Papers: 2 papers
- Marks: 100 marks each paper (Total 200 marks)
- Duration: 3 hours each paper

- Minimum Qualifying Marks:
- General Category: 50% marks in each paper (i.e., 50 marks out of 100)

- Candidates must be citizens of India

- Candidates must possess sufficient knowledge of Marathi language
- Selected candidates will be on probation for 2 years
- Service Bond: Rs. 2,00,000/- to work for 3 years from date of joining
- Post-service restriction: Cannot practice in courts for 2 years after ceasing service

- Willful suppression of material facts will lead to dismissal
