IOB LBO Selection Process 2026
As per the official notification, the Indian Overseas Bank LBO Recruitment 2026 selection process is conducted in three stages:
- Online Examination: An objective test of 140 questions for 200 marks across four sections, with sectional timing. There are no sectional qualifying marks in the 2026 cycle; the cumulative score across all sections is considered.
- Language Proficiency Test (LPT): Applicable only to candidates who have not studied the local language of the applied state as a subject in Class 10 or Class 12. Candidates who fail the LPT do not proceed further.
- Personal Interview: Carries 100 marks. Minimum qualifying marks are 50% for unreserved candidates and 45% for reserved category candidates.
The final merit list is prepared using an 80:20 weightage between the Online Examination and Personal Interview. The minimum aggregate qualifying score (combined Online Exam and Interview) is 35% for unreserved candidates and 30% for reserved category candidates. Merit lists are prepared state-wise and category-wise.

How to Prepare for IOB LBO Exam 2026
- Prioritise by marks, not just sections: Reasoning & Computer Aptitude and Data Analysis & Interpretation carry 60 marks each in fewer questions, so accuracy here has a bigger payoff than in the lower-mark sections.
- Practice full-length mock tests under sectional timing: Since each section has its own fixed duration, practising with a stopwatch per section matters more than untimed practice.
- Build a daily current affairs habit: The Banking Awareness section draws heavily on the last 6 months of banking and economic news, so this needs continuous revision rather than last-minute cramming.
- Revise grammar rules alongside comprehension practice: English Knowledge blends rule-based questions (error detection, cloze test) with reading-based ones, so both need separate practice routines.
- Prepare for the LPT early if applicable: Candidates without a Class 10/12 local-language mark sheet should start language practice well before the interview stage, since failing the LPT ends the selection process.
- Track the 80:20 weightage while planning revision time: Since the Online Exam carries four times the weightage of the Interview, prioritise exam preparation first and start interview preparation only after clearing the written stage.
