KPSC KAS Selection Process 2026

As per the official notification, the KPSC KAS Gazetted Probationers Recruitment 2026 selection process has two examination stages followed by an interview:

1. Preliminary Examination: An objective-type (MCQ) screening test comprising two papers. Marks scored in the Prelims are used only to shortlist candidates for the Mains they are not counted in the final merit. Candidates are admitted to Mains in a ratio of 1:15 against notified vacancies, category-wise.
2. Main Examination: A descriptive written test consisting of seven papers two qualifying language papers (Kannada and English) and five compulsory papers (Essay and General Studies I-IV).
3. Personality Test (Interview): Candidates are called for interview in a ratio of 1:3 against notified vacancies, based on Mains merit, category-wise. The interview carries 25 marks.

Final merit is based on the combined score of the Essay and four General Studies papers (1,250 marks) plus the Personality Test (25 marks), for a total of 1,275 marks. The Kannada and English qualifying papers are not counted toward merit, though candidates must clear the qualifying minimum in each.

The Preliminary Examination consists of two objective-type (multiple-choice) papers, each carrying 100 questions of 2 marks each, for a maximum of 200 marks and a duration of 2 hours per paper. The combined Prelims total is 400 marks.

Negative marking: One-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for every wrong answer. If a candidate marks more than one answer to a question, it is treated as wrong and penalised the same way. No penalty applies to unattempted questions.

Standard of questions: General Mental Ability questions are set at the SSLC/10th standard level; all other Prelims topics are at degree level. Question papers are set in both Kannada and English.
