OICL Assistant Selection Process 2026

As per the 2025 OICL Assistant notification, candidates go through three stages before final selection. Each stage must be cleared to move to the next.

  1. Tier I - Preliminary Examination: A qualifying-stage online objective test. Marks scored here are not added to the final merit list; the exam is only used to shortlist candidates, state-wise and category-wise, for the Mains exam.
  2. Tier II - Main Examination: A more comprehensive online objective test. Marks obtained in the Mains exam are the ones considered for the final merit list, subject to the candidate qualifying the Regional Language Test.
  3. Regional Language Test (RLT): Candidates shortlisted from the Mains exam appear for a qualifying-only test of their ability to read, write, and speak the regional language of the state/UT they applied for. It does not carry marks toward the merit list, but candidates must qualify it to be considered for appointment.

The final state-wise and category-wise merit list is prepared purely on Mains exam marks, provided the candidate has qualified the Regional Language Test and cleared the medical fitness check. The company reserves the right to modify the exam structure, and any changes are published on the official website.

How to Prepare for OICL Assistant Exam 2026

  • Start with the syllabus and exam pattern: Map out which sections carry the most marks (Reasoning, English, and Numerical Ability each carry 50 marks in Mains) and build your study plan around that weightage.
  • Build a sectional timetable: Since every section has its own time limit (20 minutes in Prelims, 15-30 minutes in Mains), practice each subject separately under timed conditions rather than only full-length mocks.
  • Solve previous year question papers and mock tests: This is the fastest way to understand OICL's actual question difficulty and recurring topic patterns, since OICL does not publish a topic-wise weightage list.
  • Treat General Awareness as a daily habit: Since it covers the last 4-6 months of current affairs plus insurance and banking awareness, read news daily instead of cramming closer to the exam.
  • Revise formulas and shortcuts regularly: Keep short notes for Numerical Ability formulas and Reasoning tricks, and revise them after every mock test.
  • Don't ignore the Regional Language Test: It is qualifying but mandatory - brush up on reading, writing, and speaking the language of the state/UT you are applying to well before the Mains result.
