SMC Recruitment 2026 - Eligibility Criteria

Each post carries specific educational qualifications and age limits. Candidates must fully satisfy the eligibility conditions before submitting their application, as experience gained before obtaining the required educational degree/qualification will not be considered valid.

Post-Wise Qualifications

1. Director (Information Technology)

  • Education: Postgraduate degree in Computer / Electronics / Electronics & Communication / Information & Communication Technology / Electronics & Telecommunication / Computer Science / Information Technology Engineering from a recognized university/institute.
  • Experience: 9 years' experience after postgraduate degree in a government/semi-government organization in a post with pay scale of ₹8,000–13,500/-, involving Information Technology work.

2. Departmental Enquiry Officer

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years' experience after obtaining degree in Labour Court, Industrial Tribunal, Conciliation, etc. Candidates with experience as Arbitrator will be given preference.
  • Additional: Must have basic computer knowledge; knowledge of Gujarati and Hindi languages is required.

3. Administrative Officer

  • Education: Postgraduate degree in any stream from a recognized university.
  • Experience: 7 years' experience in administrative work in any government/semi-government organization, Municipal Corporation, Board, or Corporation.

4. Assistant Architect

  • Education: B.E. (Civil) or Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) from a recognized university, plus a postgraduate degree or diploma in City Planning / Regional Planning / Urban Design from a recognized university/institute, OR membership of the Town Planners' Association after passing its examination.
  • Additional: Must have basic computer knowledge; knowledge of Gujarati and Hindi languages is required.

5. Senior Swimming Pool Instructor

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in any stream from a recognized university/institute AND a 10-month regular Swimming Course conducted by Sports Authority of India / Netaji Subhash Institute of Sports.
  • Additional: Must have completed first aid training with certificate from a recognized organization. Preference to candidates who have participated in state/national level swimming competitions, or those who have served as Life Saver/Swimming Coach with SMC on honorarium basis.

6. Junior Swimming Pool Instructor

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in any stream AND a 6-week Certificate Course in Swimming conducted by Sports Authority of India / Netaji Subhash Institute of Sports, with 5 years' swimming experience.
  • Additional: First aid training certificate required. Preference to state/national level swimmers or those who have served as Life Saver/Swimming Coach with SMC.

7. Junior Lady Swimming Pool Instructor

  • Same qualifications as Junior Swimming Pool Instructor. Female candidates only.

8. Electrical Wireman

  • Education: ITI Electrician OR Second Class Wireman examination pass.
  • Experience: 3 years' experience as Electrical Wireman.
  • Additional: Knowledge as Cable Jointer for HT/LT Switch Gear work. Priority given to those with specialized skills or higher qualifications/experience.

Age is reckoned as on the last date for online application (06 July 2026). The upper age limit varies by post and must not exceed the prescribed limit even after relaxation.

Selection Process

The selection for SMC Recruitment 2026 will be conducted in stages as determined by the appointing authority. For Post No. 1 (Director IT), the Standing Committee will finalize the waitlist; for Posts 2 to 8, the Appointment Authority will determine the final selection criteria based on basic qualification and/or experience.

The selection may include any combination of the following, depending on the post:

Tie-breaking rule: If two or more candidates score equal marks, the older candidate (by date of birth) gets priority in the merit list. If both marks and date of birth are equal, priority is given based on educational merit.

How to Apply – Step-by-Step Process
