SMC Recruitment 2026 - Important Dates

Candidates must note the complete schedule before applying. The application portal opens at 11:00 AM on 22 June 2026 and closes sharp at 11:00 PM on 06 July 2026. No applications submitted outside this window will be accepted.

Vacancy Details – Post-Wise & Category-Wise Breakdown

SMC has announced vacancies across 8 posts with category-wise distribution as follows. The total vacancy count across all cadres is 120, with specific reservations for SC, ST, SEBC (Socially and Educationally Backward Class), General/Unreserved, and EWS (Economically Weaker Section) categories. Additionally, out of the Senior Swimming Pool Instructor posts, 1 post is reserved for PwD (Divyangjan); out of Junior Swimming Pool Instructor posts, 1 post is reserved for PwD; and out of Electrical Wireman posts, 8 posts are reserved for PwD.

Reserved category vacancies are applicable only to original Gujarat domicile candidates of the respective reserved categories. Candidates from reserved categories may apply for unreserved posts, but selection criteria for unreserved posts will apply.

SMC Recruitment 2026 - Eligibility Criteria

Each post carries specific educational qualifications and age limits. Candidates must fully satisfy the eligibility conditions before submitting their application, as experience gained before obtaining the required educational degree/qualification will not be considered valid.

Post-Wise Qualifications

1. Director (Information Technology)

• Education: Postgraduate degree in Computer / Electronics / Electronics & Communication / Information & Communication Technology / Electronics & Telecommunication / Computer Science / Information Technology Engineering from a recognized university/institute.
• Experience: 9 years' experience after postgraduate degree in a government/semi-government organization in a post with pay scale of ₹8,000–13,500/-, involving Information Technology work.

2. Departmental Enquiry Officer

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university.
• Experience: Minimum 10 years' experience after obtaining degree in Labour Court, Industrial Tribunal, Conciliation, etc. Candidates with experience as Arbitrator will be given preference.
• Additional: Must have basic computer knowledge; knowledge of Gujarati and Hindi languages is required.

3. Administrative Officer

• Education: Postgraduate degree in any stream from a recognized university.
• Experience: 7 years' experience in administrative work in any government/semi-government organization, Municipal Corporation, Board, or Corporation.

4. Assistant Architect

• Education: B.E. (Civil) or Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) from a recognized university, plus a postgraduate degree or diploma in City Planning / Regional Planning / Urban Design from a recognized university/institute, OR membership of the Town Planners' Association after passing its examination.
• Additional: Must have basic computer knowledge; knowledge of Gujarati and Hindi languages is required.

5. Senior Swimming Pool Instructor

• Education: Bachelor's degree in any stream from a recognized university/institute AND a 10-month regular Swimming Course conducted by Sports Authority of India / Netaji Subhash Institute of Sports.
• Additional: Must have completed first aid training with certificate from a recognized organization. Preference to candidates who have participated in state/national level swimming competitions, or those who have served as Life Saver/Swimming Coach with SMC on honorarium basis.

6. Junior Swimming Pool Instructor

• Education: Bachelor's degree in any stream AND a 6-week Certificate Course in Swimming conducted by Sports Authority of India / Netaji Subhash Institute of Sports, with 5 years' swimming experience.
• Additional: First aid training certificate required. Preference to state/national level swimmers or those who have served as Life Saver/Swimming Coach with SMC.

7. Junior Lady Swimming Pool Instructor

• Same qualifications as Junior Swimming Pool Instructor. Female candidates only.

8. Electrical Wireman

• Education: ITI Electrician OR Second Class Wireman examination pass.
• Experience: 3 years' experience as Electrical Wireman.
• Additional: Knowledge as Cable Jointer for HT/LT Switch Gear work. Priority given to those with specialized skills or higher qualifications/experience.

SMC Recruitment 2026 - Age Limit

Age is reckoned as on the last date for online application (06 July 2026). The upper age limit varies by post and must not exceed the prescribed limit even after relaxation.

Candidates wondering about age relaxation can note that reserved category (SC, ST, SEBC, EWS) candidates who are original Gujarat domicile residents are eligible for age relaxation as per prevailing government rules, but the upper age limit after relaxation must not exceed 45 years. Regular employees of Surat Municipal Corporation are exempt from the upper age limit. SMC trainees (on fixed monthly stipend) are subject to the age limit rules.

SMC Recruitment 2026 - Application Fee

The application fee must be paid online only. Cash, Demand Draft, Postal Order, or Pay Order payments are not accepted. Bank charges levied during online payment are to be borne by the applicant.

Important: Once the online fee is paid, it is non-refundable under any circumstances. If a candidate submits the form again using the re-apply option, the earlier form is cancelled but the fee already paid is not refunded.

SMC Recruitment 2026 - Salary / Pay Scale

SMC offers competitive pay scales aligned with the state government pay matrix. For Swimming Pool Instructor posts and Electrical Wireman, a fixed monthly training stipend of ₹16,500/– (Junior) or ₹17,500/– (Senior) applies for the first three years.

Selection Process

The selection for SMC Recruitment 2026 will be conducted in stages as determined by the appointing authority. For Post No. 1 (Director IT), the Standing Committee will finalize the waitlist; for Posts 2 to 8, the Appointment Authority will determine the final selection criteria based on basic qualification and/or experience.

The selection may include any combination of the following, depending on the post:

Tie-breaking rule: If two or more candidates score equal marks, the older candidate (by date of birth) gets priority in the merit list. If both marks and date of birth are equal, priority is given based on educational merit.

How to Apply – Step-by-Step Process

Only online applications submitted through the SMC website will be accepted. Candidates should read the detailed notification PDF for their cadre carefully before applying.

1. Visit https://www.suratmunicipal.gov.in between 22 June 2026 (11:00 AM) and 06 July 2026 (11:00 PM).
2. User Registration (First-time users):
   • Enter your Email Address, Mobile Number, and the displayed Captcha, then click Next.
   • Verify the OTP sent to your mobile number.
   • Enter your First Name, Last Name, create a Password, and click Submit to complete sign-up.
   • Verify your email address by clicking the link sent to your registered email.
3. Login using your registered email/mobile and password.
4. Complete User Profile: Enter personal details (name, date of birth as per school leaving certificate), current and permanent address, Aadhaar card number, and language proficiency.
5. Click HOME, then click Apply Now against the relevant cadre.
6. Fill Application Form:
   • Personal Details (mandatory fields marked with red asterisk)

7. Upload Photo and Signature:
   • Photo: JPG/JPEG/PNG, max 150 KB, size 5 cm × 3.6 cm

• EWS certificate: Issued up to the last date of application; valid for three years from issue date

• Experience certificate: On organization's letterhead with competent authority signature, specifying duration (days/months/years), designation, nature of work, and monthly salary - offer/appointment letters alone are not accepted

Disability (PwD / Divyangjan) Reservation – Key Points

Reservations for PwD candidates apply specifically to Post No. 5 (1 seat), Post No. 6 (1 seat), and Post No. 8 (8 seats). Common Mistakes to Avoid

Even well-prepared applicants can face rejection due to avoidable errors during the online application. Keep these points in mind:

• Photo/Signature size errors are the most common reason for failed uploads. Ensure the photo is within 150 KB and signature within 50 KB. If files exceed limits, reduce the scanner DPI resolution and re-scan.
• Using the wrong name format: Name and date of birth in the form must match your School Leaving Certificate exactly - not your Aadhaar card or other documents.
• Submitting experience by offer/appointment letter alone: Only experience certificates on organizational letterhead with salary details are valid. Offer letters are not accepted.
• Changing mobile number/email after applying: All recruitment communications, call letters, and SMS alerts go to the registered mobile and email. Keep these active throughout the entire recruitment process.
• Applying on the last day: Server traffic is highest near the deadline. Submit your application well in advance to avoid gateway timeouts.
