SMC Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 70 Deputy Town Planner, Assistant Town Planner Posts

Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) will accept online applications for 14 Deputy Town Planner and 56 Assistant Town Planner posts, 70 in all, to prepare a waiting list for direct recruitment to currently vacant posts. Applications run from 16 November 2026 (11:00 AM) to 30 November 2026 (11:00 PM) on suratmunicipal.gov.in. The pay is Level-9 for Deputy Town Planner and Level-8 for Assistant Town Planner. Age is counted on 30 November 2026.

SMC Recruitment 2026 Overview

This notice, PRO/320/2026-27 dated 4 November 2026, revises the earlier SMC advertisement PRO 739 dated 11 March 2026. It corrects the roster-wise number of posts for three cadres and changes the qualification for Deputy Town Planner and Assistant Town Planner, and it opens fresh applications for those two cadres only.

SMC Vacancy 2026

The notice lists 123 posts across three cadres, but online applications are invited for 70 of them, the first two rows. The 53 Assistant Engineer (Electrical) posts appear only because their number was corrected.

SMC Eligibility Criteria 2026

Deputy Town Planner

• Experience: at least five years of work related to Town Planning after obtaining the qualification.
• Computer knowledge: the basic knowledge of Computer Application prescribed in the Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules 1967, as amended from time to time.
• Language: adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both.

Assistant Town Planner

• Experience: the notice prints no experience requirement for this post.
• Computer knowledge: the same Rules 1967 standard as above.
• Language: adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both.

Other eligibility conditions

• Experience is counted only if gained after obtaining the qualification, and it must be shown with an experience certificate. An offer letter or appointment letter is not accepted as proof of experience.
• Candidates who passed the CCC or CCC+ examination (or an equivalent degree approved by the Government), or who were trained by SMC, must submit the certificate. The notice refers to passing within one year of appointment.
• SC, ST, SEBC and EWS posts are counted only for candidates of those categories who are originally from Gujarat. Reserved-category candidates may apply for unreserved posts, but then the unreserved selection standards apply.
• SMC regular employees need not meet the age limit; SMC trainees on a fixed monthly stipend are subject to the age rules.

SMC Application Fee 2026

The fee is paid online by debit card, credit card or net banking. Cash, demand draft, Indian postal order or pay order is not accepted, and other bank charges are borne by the applicant. The fee is not refundable after the online application is filed.

SMC Selection Process 2026

SMC will prepare a waiting list of candidates who meet the prescribed qualification, to fill the currently vacant posts by direct recruitment.

• Considering the number of applications received, the Municipal Commissioner will decide whether written, practical or oral interview stages are held; his decision is final.
• The final selection list and waiting list are prepared on the decisions of the Staff Selection Committee under the recruitment rules for each cadre.
• Candidates attend any test at the place fixed by the Appointment Authority at their own cost; SMC pays no travel expense.
• If candidates have equal merit, the older candidate gets priority; if age is also equal, educational merit decides.

How to Apply Online for SMC Recruitment 2026

1. Open the official SMC website between 16 November 2026 (11:00 AM) and 30 November 2026 (11:00 PM). Study the detailed advertisement PDF of the cadre you want.
2. Complete User Registration: enter e-mail address, mobile number and captcha; verify the OTP sent to the mobile; enter first name, last name and a password; then verify the e-mail through the link received. Registration alone does not confirm the application.
3. Log in and fill the User Profile with name, date of birth and Aadhaar details as on the proof documents, address, and languages known. Click Apply Now against the cadre.
4. Fill Personal Details (including dependent of municipal employee or SMC employee details if applicable), Educational Qualification, Experience Details (institution, dates, designation, nature of work, monthly salary) and Documents Details. Tick the documents you will produce.
5. Enter the system-generated code and answer the declaration. Upload the photograph (up to 150 KB, 5 cm height by 3.6 cm width) and the signature (up to 50 KB, 2.5 cm height by 7.5 cm width) in JPG/JPEG or PNG; sign on white paper in black or blue.
6. Check the preview, then click Confirm & Pay. Pay the fee online, and download and print the payment receipt. The receipt is also sent to the e-mail address given.
7. To correct a form before final submission, use My Application(s) on the Home tab, select Edit Application or Upload Photo And Signature, then Confirm & Pay again.

Documents Required

• Proof of age: birth certificate, school leaving certificate or secondary or higher secondary certificate (any one).
• Educational qualification: mark sheets, degree certificate, attempt certificates and registration certificate; a grade-to-percentage conversion certificate of the university where marks are given in grades.
• Experience certificate on the institution's letterhead with signature and date, showing nature of work and basic and total pay.
• SC or ST candidates: caste certificate issued by the competent authority of the Gujarat Government.
• SEBC candidates: Non-Creamy Layer certificate in the Gujarati format of Annexure-4, valid for the financial year and the next three, issued on or after 01-04-2024 and not after the last date. An English Annexure-A certificate is not accepted.
• EWS candidates: eligibility certificate in the Gujarati format (Annexure-G) issued by the Government of Gujarat, valid for three years and issued by the last date.
• PwD candidates: disability certificate and UDID (Unique Disability Identity Card).
• Married women: marriage registration certificate or Government Gazette copy to apply under the husband's name.
• Candidates in government, semi-government or company service: No Objection Certificate; training or service details; EPIC, PAN card and Aadhaar copies.

Originals and one attested copy are submitted at document verification, not at the time of applying.

SMC Important Instructions

• Candidates who already applied for Deputy Town Planner or Assistant Town Planner under the earlier advertisement PRO 739 dated 11 March 2026 need not apply again.
• No candidate needs to apply for Assistant Engineer (Electrical); only the number of posts was corrected.
• The one Radiologist post at serial 4 of PRO 739 is cancelled.
• One candidate can submit one application per cadre. If more than one is filed for the same cadre, the last confirmed application is accepted and the fee is not refunded.
• After final online submission, requests for changes are not entertained; if a candidate must change something, a new form can be filled and the earlier one is cancelled, with no refund of the earlier fee.
• Information given online is accepted as final based on the original certificates. Wrong or forged documents can lead to cancellation of the application or of appointment.
• Candidates who were ever retired, resigned or removed from government service, a government company, board or corporation must declare it in the application.
• Candidates should keep the mobile number and e-mail ID entered in the form valid until the recruitment ends, since call letters and instructions are sent there.
• SMC may cancel or amend the advertisement for any reason without giving reasons. Women are reserved 33 per cent within each category.
