Eligibility Criteria

• For Post Code M 01: 10th/Matriculation or its equivalent pass as per the prescribed norms fixed by DoPT from time to time.
• For Post Code M 02: ITI pass in Electrician Trade.
• For Post Code M 03: ITI pass in Carpenter Trade.
• For Post Code M 04: ITI pass in Fitter Trade.
• For Post Code M 05: ITI pass in Plumber Trade.
• For Post Code M 06: ITI pass in Air Condition (AC) & Refrigeration Trade.
• For Post Code M 07: ITI pass in Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA) Trade.

Salary / Stipend

• All Multi Tasking Staff posts carry Level-1 pay scale [Rs.18,000-56,900] as per 7th CPC.
• Total emoluments are approximately Rs.36,000/- per month on minimum of scale including admissible allowances in ‘Y’ class city.

Age Limit 

• Minimum Age: 18 years.
• Maximum Age: 25 years.
• Upper age limit relaxable up to 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC(NCL) where posts are reserved for these categories, as per Government of India orders in force.
• Age relaxation of 10 years (15 years for SC/ST, 13 years for OBC(NCL)) for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities as per applicable rules.
• Relaxation for Ex-servicemen as per Ex-servicemen (Re-employment in Civil Services and Posts) Rules and related Government instructions.

Application Fee

• Candidates are required to pay application fee of Rs.500/- (five hundred only) through SB Collect (SBI Collect) link provided in the online application.
• SC/ST/PwBD/Women/CSIR Employees and only those Ex-Servicemen who are eligible for reservation are exempted from payment of application fee.

Selection Process

• Shortlisting of candidates by a Committee constituted by the Director, CSIR-NML, based on fulfillment of qualification, terms and conditions of the advertisement; only shortlisted candidates will be allowed to appear in the Competitive Written Examination.
• Selection will be made on the basis of merit list of Competitive Written Examination.
• Competitive Written Examination will be Computer Based Objective Type Multiple Choice Examination, with questions in English and Hindi (except English language section), standard of Class X, total 150 questions and total time of 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for candidates eligible for scribe).
• The paper will have four parts: Part I General Intelligence (25 questions, 75 marks), Part II Quantitative Aptitude (25 questions, 75 marks), Part III General Awareness (50 questions, 150 marks), Part IV English Language (50 questions, 150 marks), with three marks for every correct answer and one negative mark for every wrong answer.
• Merit list will be prepared on the basis of performance in Competitive Written Examination, with tie resolved by lesser negative marks, older age, earlier acquisition of minimum educational qualification, and alphabetical order of first name.

General Information / Instructions

• The applicant must be a citizen of India and must possess the essential qualification and fulfill all conditions stipulated in the advertisement; minimum essential qualification is compulsory even if higher qualification is possessed.
• The age limit for Multi Tasking Staff is 18-25 years with relaxations as per Government/CSIR rules; crucial date for determining age, qualifications, experience and reserved category status is the closing date for receipt of online applications.
• All new entrants will be governed by the New Pension Scheme as adopted by CSIR; the post carries usual allowances (DA, HRA, TA) and benefits such as medical reimbursement, LTC, advances, and CSIR residence allotment as per rules.
• Normal place of posting is CSIR-NML, Jamshedpur, including centres at Chennai and Digha (West Bengal), but appointees can be posted in any CSIR Lab/Institute or its centres in India at the discretion of competent authority.
• Candidates will not be paid any TA/DA for appearing in Competitive Written Examination and canvassing in any form or bringing political/other influence will be treated as disqualification.
• The Director, CSIR-NML reserves the right to cancel the advertisement or not to fill the posts and the number of vacancies may increase or decrease at the time of selection.
• Selected candidates will be on probation for two years, which may be extended or curtailed at the discretion of the competent authority.

How to Apply

• Candidates are advised to go through the instructions for applying online available in the online application portal on CSIR-NML website https://nml.res.in.
• Eligible and interested candidates are required to apply online only through CSIR-NML website; the online application link will be available from 05.01.2026 (11.00 AM) to 06.02.2026 (05:00 PM), and no other mode of application will be accepted.
• Candidates are required to submit only one application against any given post code; two or more applications against one post code may lead to cancellation of candidature.
• Candidates desirous to apply for more than one post code should submit separate applications for each post code with requisite application fee for each, wherever applicable.
• Candidates should submit the online application form well in advance without waiting for the last date/time; CSIR-NML will not be responsible for non-submission of application or payment of fee for any reason.
• Candidates must have a valid and active personal email ID to be kept active till completion of the recruitment process and must upload latest passport size colour photograph and signature as per specified size and format.
• Application fee of Rs.500/- (if applicable) must be paid through SBI Collect link provided in the online application; fee once paid will not be refunded or kept in reserve for any other recruitment.
• Candidates working in Government Departments/Autonomous Bodies/PSUs must attach NOC or proof of having applied for NOC and must produce NOC with vigilance clearance when asked, failing which candidature will be terminated.
• Required certificates (educational, category, PwBD, Ex-servicemen, NOC, etc.) and a handwritten declaration must be scanned and uploaded as separate PDF files (each not more than 4 MB) along with the online application.
• Applications without proper signature, photograph, applicable fee or clear documents will be summarily rejected, and no interim enquiry or correspondence will be entertained.
