Chhattisgarh has secured the first position nationally in the third phase of the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB 3.0) initiative, a community-driven water conservation programme run under the Ministry of Jal Shakti's Catch the Rain campaign. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai presented the state's model at a national summit in New Delhi in the presence of PM Narendra Modi.

• Chhattisgarh completed 77,719 of 79,775 registered water conservation structures.
• The state had ranked second in both JSJB 1.0 and JSJB 2.0 before topping JSJB 3.0.
• Five Chhattisgarh districts — Surajpur, Mahasamund, Balod, Balodabazar-Bhatapara, and Kabirdham — featured among India's top 10 performers.
• Koriya district's innovative "5 Per Cent Model" encourages farmers to voluntarily allocate 5% of agricultural land for groundwater recharge structures.

IIT Madras & UNESCO MGIEP Partner for AI-Based Immersive Learning

IIT Madras has partnered with UNESCO MGIEP (Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development) to build AI-based immersive learning tools that combine Artificial Intelligence, Extended Reality (XR), and game design with Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). DRDO & University of Hyderabad Patent Next-Gen Rocket Propellant "BAM-H24"

DRDO, along with the Advanced Centre of Research in High Energy Materials (ACRHEM) at the University of Hyderabad, has secured an Indian patent (No. 599900) for BAM-H24, a boron-, hydrogen- and nitrogen-rich solid rocket propellant fuel. It offers high thermal stability, low impact sensitivity, and high specific impulse, useful for missile systems and space launch vehicles.

Birkbeck, University of London Gets UGC Nod for Bengaluru Campus

Birkbeck, University of London (UK) has received UGC's Letter of Approval to set up its Bengaluru campus at Sattva Tech Park under the 2023 Foreign Higher Educational Institutions (FHEI) regulations. The campus will offer UG and PG business programmes at significantly lower cost than studying in the UK, in partnership with the Education Centre of Australia.

UNEP Report: 1.5°C Warming Overshoot Now "Unavoidable"

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) released its report "Limiting Overshoot: Navigating exceedance of 1.5°C and pathways towards return," warning that the world is now most likely to temporarily breach the 1.5°C pre-industrial warming threshold within the next few years.

Key Findings:

• Global temperature may peak around 1.8°C above pre-industrial levels even under an optimistic scenario.
• Under current policies, warming could reach 2.6°C by 2100.
• Some impacts of overshoot will be irreversible, even if temperatures later decline.
• Every extra 5 years of high emissions could add roughly 0.1°C to peak warming.

UNGA Adopts "Correct the Map" Resolution to Promote Equal Earth Projection

The UN General Assembly adopted the "Correct the Map" resolution with 164 votes in favour, promoting the Equal Earth projection over the centuries-old Mercator map to more fairly represent the true size of continents, particularly Africa (about 14 times larger than Greenland on an accurate scale). The resolution was sponsored by Togo and backed by the African Union; the USA voted against it while six countries abstained. It is non-binding and does not ban the Mercator projection, which remains useful for navigation.

PM Narendra Modi visited Kyrgyzstan (August 31–September 1, 2026) as the second leg of his Central Asia tour, attending the 26th SCO Council of Heads of State Summit at President Sadyr Japarov's invitation.
