Eligibility Criteria for IIT Roorkee PhD 2026
Candidates must satisfy the Common Minimum Eligibility Criteria (CMEC) and the department-specific Minimum Educational Qualification (MEQ).
Common Minimum Eligibility Criteria (CMEC):

Master’s degree holders: Minimum CGPA 6.0 (60%) for GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC and 5.5 (55%) for SC/ST/PwD.

Must have qualified a national level test (GATE, CEED, JEST, UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, or equivalent) or hold a national fellowship (in most cases).

B.Tech/M.Sc with CGPA ≥8.0 from MoE-funded institutions (CFTIs).

Bachelor’s/Master’s from IITs with CGPA ≥8.0.

4-year Bachelor’s with CGPA ≥7.5 + national test (non-CFTI).

MBBS/BAMS/BHMS/BDS with CGPA 6.0.

Selection Process for IIT Roorkee PhD Admission
Admission is purely merit-based. Shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test and/or interview conducted by the respective Department/Centre/School.
