MPESB Subedar Eligibility Criteria
- Candidate must be a citizen of India.
- Non-MP-domicile candidates may apply only under the Unreserved (Open) category, with no reservation or age-relaxation benefit, and a flat maximum age of 33 years.
- A candidate with more than 2 living children, one of whom was born on or after 26 January 2001, is not eligible (with an exception where a single subsequent delivery results in twins/multiple births).

- Ex-Servicemen may deduct their period of armed forces service from actual age, provided the resultant age does not exceed the post's maximum limit by more than 3 years.
- If a candidate has more than one basis for age relaxation, only the single relaxation giving the maximum benefit will be granted (relaxations are not cumulative).
- Age relaxation is not available to contractual/honorary staff such as Shiksha Karmi or Panchayat Karmi.

An additional MP Online portal fee applies: ₹60 if the form is filled via an authorized kiosk, or ₹20 if the candidate logs in and fills the form themselves as a registered citizen user. A separate departmental exam/processing fee (₹200 unreserved / ₹100 reserved) applies at the second-stage main written exam for qualified candidates, as per Police Department rules.
MPESB Subedar Salary
All Subedar and Sub Inspector cadre posts (SAF, DEF, Arms, Photo, QD, Finger Print) carry Pay Level 9: ₹36,200 – ₹1,14,800. During the 3-year probation period, stipend is payable at 70% of minimum pay in year 1, 80% in year 2, and 90% in year 3, plus other allowances as approved by the government from time to time. Employees appointed on or after 01.01.2005 are covered under the Defined Contribution Pension Scheme.
MPESB Subedar Selection Process
Selection for MPESB Subedar & Sub Inspector Recruitment 2026 is conducted in two stages.
Stage 1: Preliminary Written Exam
- Objective/MCQ type, 100 marks, 2-hour duration, no negative marking.
- Subjects: Hindi language comprehension, English language comprehension, Analytical ability, History, Geography, Science, Civics, Basic computer knowledge, Reasoning, Current Affairs.
- Separate merit lists are prepared for non-technical and technical posts; candidates equal to 10 times the advertised vacancies (per vertical category: UR/OBC/ST/SC/EWS) are called for the Main Exam.
- A 5% bonus mark is available at this stage only for specified categories (dependents of soldiers killed in recent India-Pakistan conflict, ex-servicemen, census/election-surplus staff, NCC "C" certificate holders, and returnees from Myanmar/Sri Lanka, among others).
Stage 2: Main Exam, Physical Efficiency Test & Interview
- Main Written Exam: Two compulsory papers (Paper I & II) of 300 marks each (600 total) for all non-technical and technical posts, 2 hours each. Technical-post candidates (Group-1: SI-Arms; Group-2: SI-Photo/QD/Finger Print) also take an additional Paper III (300 marks) based on Mechanical Engineering (for Arms) or Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry (for Photo/QD/Finger Print). Objective type; 1/3 mark negative marking for wrong answers.
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Compulsory for all candidates, 100 marks total - 800m race (max 40 marks), Long Jump (max 30 marks, 3 attempts), Shot Put (max 30 marks, 3 attempts). Minimum qualifying marks: 30 for non-technical posts, 20 for technical posts. Candidates equal to 3 times the advertised vacancies (per category) based on Main Exam merit are called for PET and Interview.
- Interview: 50 marks, conducted by a selection committee for candidates who clear PET and document verification.
The final merit list is based on Main Exam, PET, and Interview marks combined (using a Normalised Equi-Percentile scaling method for multi-shift/multi-stage exams), with document verification conducted after PET.

Candidates must have no knock-knee or flat feet and must be certified medically fit by the District Medical Board. No relaxation is available in the minimum physical standards on health or any other grounds.

MPESB Subedar Recruitment 2026 – Important Instructions
- Only one application per candidate is permitted; multiple applications will lead to cancellation of candidature.
- Aadhaar-based registration is mandatory; candidates must carry Aadhaar/e-Aadhaar details along with a photo ID to the exam.
- Electronic devices (mobile phones, calculators, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, etc.) are strictly prohibited in the exam hall.
