Selection Process
- Eligible candidates meeting the minimum eligibility criteria as on the Crucial Date will be required to appear for a Computer Based Test (CBT).
- Selection will be based on a candidate's relative score in the Computer Based Test.
- CBT Pattern: Total 100 Marks for 90 minutes duration (one sitting), comprising two sections:
- Section A: Technical Knowledge (discipline related) – 70 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of 1 mark each – 70 Marks.
- Section B: General Knowledge, General Awareness, Reasoning, Verbal & Mental Ability, and Quantitative Aptitude – 30 MCQs of 1 mark each – 30 Marks.
- Each question carries 01 mark. There is no penalty for wrong answers. No marks for un-attempted questions.
- Question paper will be bilingual (English and Hindi). In case of any error/ambiguity in Hindi version, the English version shall be valid and final.
- Minimum Qualifying Marks (Cut-Off):
- UR / EWS: 50 marks out of 100
- SC / ST / ESM / OBC-NCL / PwBD: 40 marks out of 100
- Computer Based Test will be conducted separately for each post.
- Tie-Breaking Rule: In case of equal marks, tie will be resolved by: (i) Higher score in Section-A; then (ii) Date of Birth – older candidates preferred; then (iii) Alphabetical order of names.
- Candidates who score equal to or above Minimum Qualifying Marks will be notified for Scrutiny/Verification of original testimonials in the order of marks scored, up to the extent positions remain unfilled.
- Provisional merit panels will be published on NCL website after resolving ties, separately for different positions.
- For Assistant Foreman (Mechanical) and Assistant Foreman (Electrical), all candidates will be deemed to have applied for both Excavation Cadre and E&M Cadre. Separate merit lists for each cadre will be prepared; Excavation Cadre merit panel will be prepared first, followed by E&M Cadre with remaining candidates.
- Provisional appointment letters will be issued to successful candidates as per their relative merit position and eligibility, with due consideration of reservation.
- If candidate is found not fulfilling eligibility criteria during Scrutiny/Verification, Probation, or during employment, candidature/appointment shall be cancelled.
- Appointment is subject to being found medically fit in the Company's Medical Examination as per CIL's laid down rules.

- Navigate to: Career > Recruitment > Employment Notification for Direct Recruitment of various posts of Supervisory Staff i.e. Assistant Foreman (Mechanical / E&T / Electrical) > Apply Online.
- Employment Notification is available in both English and Hindi; candidates may select either at their convenience.
- Go through the complete Employment Notification carefully for assessing eligibility before applying.
- Candidates (other than SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen/Departmental Candidates) must pay the non-refundable application fee of Rs. 1,180/- through online facility only.
- While applying online, candidates must upload the following documents:
- Scanned copy of recent passport-size colour photograph (not older than 3 weeks, in jpg/jpeg format).
- Scanned copy of signature with black ink pen (in jpg/jpeg format).
- Scanned copy of Matriculation / Secondary Board level certificate / marksheet.
- Scanned copy of Diploma or relevant and higher qualification in the respective engineering discipline (Electronics / Mechanical / Electrical) from a Government recognized institute.
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / SC / ST / PwBD candidates: self-attested copy of valid certificate in prescribed format.
- EWS candidates: self-attested copy of valid Income & Asset certificate issued by competent authority on the basis of gross annual income of Financial Year 2024-2025.
- A candidate can apply for any one of the three positions only. Applying for multiple positions will lead to cancellation of candidature.
- If more than one application is received from a candidate, the most recent (current) application will be considered as final.
- After filling all required fields, ensure all data furnished is correct before submitting the form; no change is allowed after submission.
