OPSC AEE Civil Selection Process
Selection for OPSC AEE Civil Recruitment 2026 is made through a competitive examination conducted in three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Interview.
A. Preliminary Examination
The Preliminary Examination is a screening test for shortlisting candidates for the Main Examination. It consists of one paper in Civil Engineering with Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions, conducted through Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) or Computer-Based Test (CBT), as decided by the Commission.
| Particular | Details |
|---|---|
| Subject | Civil Engineering |
| No. of Questions | 100 |
| Total Marks | 100 (1 mark per question) |
| Negative Marking | 25% of the marks allotted to the question deducted for each incorrect answer |
| Unattempted Questions | No mark awarded or deducted |
| Duration | 1 hour 30 minutes |
Minimum qualifying marks for the Preliminary Examination are determined separately by the Commission for each category. Candidates securing the qualifying marks are shortlisted for the Main Examination in order of merit, subject to a maximum of approximately 10 times the number of vacancies notified for each category. Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not counted in preparing the final merit list.
B. Main Examination
The Main Examination consists of 2 papers totalling 500 marks, followed by an Interview of 50 marks - a grand total of 550 marks used for the final merit list.
| Component | Paper | No. of Questions | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Main Examination | Paper-I (General Studies) | 100 | 200 | 2 hours |
| Main Examination | Paper-II (Civil Engineering) | 150 | 300 | 2 hours 30 minutes |

Both Main Examination papers are Objective Type MCQs (OMR or CBT), with 2 marks awarded per correct answer, 25% negative marking per wrong answer, and zero marks for unattempted questions. The Commission fixes qualifying marks for each paper and/or aggregate for each category. Candidates securing the minimum qualifying marks are shortlisted for the Interview in a ratio of 1:2 with respect to the number of vacancies in each category, subject to a minimum of 5 candidates.
C. Interview
The Interview (Personality Test) carries 50 marks.
D. Final Merit List
The final Merit List (Select List) is prepared based on the combined marks obtained in the Main Examination and Interview, category-wise, equal to the total number of vacancies to be filled. In case of a tie in aggregate marks, the candidate with higher Main Examination marks is placed higher; if the tie persists, the older candidate (by date of birth) is placed higher.
