Once you have compared your responses with the provisional answer key, you can estimate your Prelims score using the formula below. This gives you a fair idea of whether you are likely to qualify for the Mains examination.
Score Calculation Formula:
Estimated Score = (Number of Correct Answers × 2.5) − (Number of Wrong Answers × 0.83)
Example Calculation:
Suppose a candidate attempted 100 out of 120 questions, with 82 correct and 18 wrong:
- Marks from correct answers: 82 × 2.5 = 205 marks
- Deduction for wrong answers: 18 × 0.83 = 14.94 marks
- Estimated Total Score = 205 − 14.94 = 190.06 marks
Note: Unattempted questions carry zero marks and do not attract any negative marking.
