Eligibility Criteria
- Candidate must be an Indian National.
- Must hold a Certificate of Competency as Master (FG) issued by Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India or an equivalent COC recognized by the Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India.
- Must have one-year on board experience as Master or Chief Officer of a foreign going ship after obtaining Master Mariner (FG) COC.
- Upper age limit is 55 years, subject to regular and periodical physical fitness certified by the Port’s Chief Medical Officer.
Age Limit
- Maximum Age: 55 years, subject to physical fitness certification by Port’s Chief Medical Officer.
Salary/Stipend
- Trainee Pilot (during training): Rs. 1,50,000 per month.
- On obtaining Pilot License & up to 30000 GT: Rs. 2,00,000 per month.
- Up to 65000 GT excluding car carriers: Rs. 2,50,000 per month.
- Up to 65000 GT including car carriers: Rs. 2,75,000 per month.
- Full / Unrestricted Tonnage: Rs. 3,00,000 per month.
- Upon attaining full tonnage, annual increment of 6% on gross emoluments in subsequent years.
- Unfurnished port quarters on priority basis or Rs. 15,000 per month in case of non-availability; medical facilities at par with regular pilots, leave benefits and reimbursement of personal accident insurance premium as per terms.

Selection Process
- Selection is through Walk-in Interview for the Pilot post on contract basis.
- Shortlisted candidates will be engaged as Trainee Pilot and shall undergo six months on-the-job training.
- Candidates must execute a bond to serve Chennai Port for at least three years on successful completion of training and licensing, and furnish a Fixed Security Deposit of Rs. 3,00,000 in a nationalized bank.
- Monthly emoluments linked to tonnage handled, with marine allowances over minimum 37 acts in a month on par with regular pilots.
