• A Master's degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade where a grading system is followed) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
• The candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC or CSIR, or an equivalent test such as GSLET/GSET/SLET/SET, OR have been awarded a Ph.D. degree in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016.
• Candidates registered for a Ph.D. before 11 July 2009 may be exempted from NET/SLET/SET subject to conditions specified in the notification (regular-mode Ph.D., evaluation by at least two external examiners, open viva voce, two research papers with at least one in a refereed journal, and presentation of at least two conference papers).
• NET/SLET/SET is not required for Master's programmes in disciplines where these tests are not conducted by UGC/CSIR or an accredited body.
• Alternatively, a Ph.D. obtained from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 in the QS, THE, or Shanghai (ARWU) World University Rankings is also accepted.

• Candidates are first shortlisted for interview based on an Academic Score calculated as per Table 3A of Annexure-I (out of a maximum of 100 marks: Academic Score – 80, Research Publications – 10, Teaching/Post-Doctoral Experience – 10).
