IIT Delhi Faculty Recruitment 2026 - Apply Online for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor Posts

IIT Delhi has issued Rolling Advertisement No. IITD/2026/AP‑1 for Assistant Professor (Grade I & Grade II) and Rolling Advertisement No. IITD/2026/PROF‑1 for Associate Professor and Professor positions across multiple academic units, including core engineering departments (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, CSE, etc.), sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), management, HSS, design, energy and interdisciplinary centres such as CART, TRIP, ScAI, SoPP and CRDT.

The rolling advertisements are published on 06 April 2026, with the online application portal opening from 17 April 2026, and for this cycle, applications can be submitted up to 30 June 2026 (23:59 PM IST) through the dedicated faculty recruitment portal ecampus.iitd.ac.in/IITDFR‑0/login only.

The essential qualification for Assistant Professor Grade I and Grade II is a Ph.D. in the relevant discipline with first class or equivalent in the preceding degree and a consistently good academic record (typically ≥60% at all levels). For Grade II, post‑PhD experience is desirable but not mandatory, whereas for Grade I at least 3 years post‑PhD industrial/research/teaching experience is required; the maximum age is generally 35 years for male and 38 years for female candidates, with relaxation of 5 years for PwBD candidates.

For Associate Professor, candidates must have a Ph.D. with at least 6 years’ post‑PhD experience (excluding Ph.D. period), of which at least 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor Grade I (or equivalent) in IITs/NITs or comparable institutions, along with a strong record in teaching, research and sponsored/consultancy projects. For Professor, a minimum of 10 years’ total experience, including at least 4 years at Associate Professor level or equivalent, plus evidence of guiding Ph.D. students, completed sponsored R&D/consultancy projects as PI/co‑PI, and a sustained record of high‑quality publications is required.

Assistant Professor applicants are expected to have at least 4 refereed research papers with a minimum of 2 in reputed journals, showing clear potential for independent research. Associate Professor applicants should usually have 10 or more refereed papers, with at least 4 in reputed journals and about 2 papers in the last 3 years, and experience in guiding doctoral research. Professor applicants are expected to show a more extensive record, often 20 or more refereed publications, including at least 8 in reputed journals with several recent papers, plus strong guidance and project track records.

As per the rolling advertisements and IIT norms, Professors are placed in Pay Level 14A (₹1,59,100 – ₹2,20,200) with a starting basic pay of ₹1,59,100, Associate Professors in Pay Level 13A2 (₹1,39,600 – ₹2,11,300) with starting pay of ₹1,39,600, Assistant Professor Grade I in Pay Level 12 (₹1,01,500 – ₹1,67,400) with starting pay around ₹1,01,500, and Assistant Professor Grade II in Pay Level 10 (₹57,700 – ₹98,200), with entry pay typically in the range ₹57,700–₹70,900 depending on experience and institute rules.

Reservations for SC (15%), ST (7.5%), OBC‑NCL (27%), EWS (10%) and PwBD (4% horizontal) are applicable to faculty recruitment at IIT Delhi in accordance with Government of India norms, and candidates seeking reservation benefits must upload valid category and non‑creamy layer certificates in the prescribed formats.

Shortlisting is based on academic record, relevance and quality of research, publication profile, teaching experience, industrial/consulting exposure and alignment with departmental research areas. Shortlisted candidates are invited for interactions/presentations and a formal interview (Stage‑I and Stage‑II where applicable) before a statutory Selection Committee, and the final decision rests with the Institute based on committee recommendations.
