Qualification and Experience

The eligibility criteria differ based on whether a candidate applies for Short Term Contract or Deputation.

For Short Term Contract

Eminent artists/private persons fulfilling the essential qualifications as well as having the desirable qualifications, as applicable to a Assistant Professor / Lecturer (Bharatanatyam) level appointee in a Central/State Government/Autonomous institutions.

For Deputation

Officers holding analogous posts in Central/State Government/Autonomous institutions, or having 8 years regular service in the Pay Level 15 (Rs. 36200-114800) of Tamil Nadu Government State Pay Scales, or equivalent level.

Essential Qualifications

• Class X passed.
• Diploma or Post Diploma holder from a recognised institution in the particular field.
• Should be able to give solo performance for about 2 hours.
• Should be able to sing and conduct dance programmes by doing nattuvangam.
• Should be able to take part in Kalakshetra productions.
• Should be able to handle all the junior and senior level classes and theory in English.
• Should have a minimum of 8 years experience in the field.

Desirable Qualifications

• Knowledge of South Indian languages and Hindi.
• Ability to write music and dance notations.

Age Limit

The maximum age limit for appointment on deputation/short term contract shall not exceed 40 years on the closing date of receipt of application, i.e. 23-11-2026.

Pay and Terms

The post carries the scale of pay in Pay Level 16 (Rs 36400-115700) in 7th Pay Commission pay matrix of TN State Pay Scale. The appointment is made on a deputation or short term contract basis.

Kalakshetra Foundation Assistant Professor (Bharatanatyam) Job Description

The responsibilities attached with the post of Assistant Professor (Bharatanatyam) in RDCFA are as follows:

• To handle Diploma and Post-Diploma practical classes including theory;
• To complete entire curriculum within the specified time;
• To assess the learning quality of each student and accordingly supplement additional instructions, if any, as required;
• To hold regular meetings with parents and guardians and apprise them about the regularity in attendance, ability to learn, progress made in learning and any other relevant information about the child; and
• To take part in Kalakshetra productions
• To conduct rehearsals for all the dance dramas
• To assist in organizing art festivals and other functions throughout the year;
• To accompany artists in the performances conducted at Kalakshetra and abroad
• To choreograph dance dramas
• To provide guidance for Costume Department in designing costumes for dance dramas
• To coordinate with Dance section in organizing art festivals and other celebrations at Kalakshetra;
• To conduct rehearsals for all dance-dramas in co-ordination with dance section;
• To perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Principal or by the administration of the Kalakshetra Foundation.

Selection Process

Based on the scrutiny of applications, candidates who fulfil the Essential Qualifications in all respects as per the parameters of this Notice will be shortlisted, and such shortlisted candidates may be called for a skill test, if necessary.
