Eligibility Criteria

First Year Diploma (Regular)

  • Must have passed Class 10 (SSLC) or an equivalent examination from Tamil Nadu State Board (TNSB), CBSE, ICSE, or any other recognized board.

  • Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu are given admission preference.
  • No minimum percentage cutoff is officially specified; admission is purely merit-based on total SSLC marks.

Lateral Entry (Direct Second Year)

  • Must have passed Class 12 (HSC) or completed a 2-year ITI programme after Class 10.

  • Eligible for direct admission into the second year of a diploma programme.
  • Selection is based on marks secured in the +2 or ITI examination.

Part-Time Diploma

  • Must have passed Class 10 and have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in an engineering sector.
  • Candidates must have been employed within a 90-kilometre radius of the institution they are applying to.
  • Note: Employees of Government offices and Public Sector Undertakings in Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai are exempt from the distance criterion for Government Polytechnic, Thoothukudi (Tuticorin).
