Eligibility Criteria
- Legal Consultant: Degree in Law, enrolled in the Bar Council and continuously practicing law for three years before the constitutional courts and statutory Tribunals in India.
- Senior Legal Consultant: Degree in law, enrolled in the Bar Council and continuously practicing law for over five years before the Constitutional Courts and Statutory Tribunals in India.
- Degree in Engineering in Electrical or Mechanical Discipline, in addition to Degree in law, will be preferred.
- Applicants who have passed all his/her Examinations within the duration of their Course period in Degree in Law are alone Eligible to apply.
- Applicants pursuing Post Graduate Degree in Law or any other Degrees or Programs requiring their compulsory attendance elsewhere are not eligible to apply.
- Applicant shall not be a member of any political party.
- Applicant shall not hold any post, private or public or whatsoever including as a Member of a Panchayat.
- Applicant shall have a command over English in reading, writing and speaking/Presenting, besides having a reasonable Knowledge in Tamil.
- Applicant shall not be a convict in any criminal case including under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act,1881.
- Applicant should not have any criminal case pending against him/her, whether charge-sheet is filed or even at the stage of investigation pursuant to registration of a Crime.
- He/She must be a citizen of India.
Salary/ Stipend
- Senior Legal Consultant: Rs.1,50,000/- (Rupees one lakh and fifty thousand only) per month consolidated.
- Legal Consultant: Rs.1,00,000/- (Rupees One lakh only) per month consolidated.
- No other allowances or perks except Travelling Allowance (upto II AC by train/AC Sleeper Bus or, in case of travel outside Tamil Nadu, airfare in economy class) whenever required to perform journey in connection with the engagement.
Age Limit (as on date of notification)
- Legal Consultant: Must not have attained the age of 35 years.
- Senior Legal Consultant: Must not have attained the age of 65 years.

Selection Process
- Selection shall be made by way of Notification inviting applications from willing and eligible Advocates.
- Applications shall be made in the prescribed form accompanied with copies of documents in complete shape.
- Meritorious & Eligible Applicants based on academic marks scored in the Degree in Law will be short-listed and informed to appear for Viva-voce at Chennai at their own expenses.
- Applicants having a Bachelor Degree in Engineering in Electrical or Mechanical discipline, in addition to degree in law, will be preferred.
- Selection made by a Committee nominated by the Chairman-cum-Managing Director/TNPDCL, with the list placed for approval.
- Applicants shall produce original Testimonials for verification at the time of Viva-voce and assumption of charge.
General Information / Instructions
- Engagement is temporary/purely on adhoc basis; initially for two years, extendable one year at a time but not exceeding overall five years, subject to satisfactory performance.
- Engagement may be discontinued/terminated at any time without prior notice if services are unsatisfactory or need ceases, without compensation except honorarium up to date of termination.
- On expiry of three years, engagement deemed terminated automatically.
- Selectees shall take up engagement within the specified period; no extension requests entertained.
- Not treated as regular employees; no claim for permanency in TNPDCL.
- To leave, provide one month's prior notice to Chief Engineer/Personnel/TNPDCL through Head of Office.
- Duties include full-time assistance in legal and para-legal works, preparation of drafts, identifying issues/documents/citations, follow-up, statistical reports, compliance monitoring, etc.
- Attendance marking required in designated offices (Chennai, Madurai, or New Delhi).
- Casual Leave: 1 day per calendar month (max 12 days per year), carry forward within the year; excess leads to deduction from honorarium.
- Bar to practice as Advocate for others or take up any employment during engagement; refrain from accepting briefs related to TNEB Limited and subsidiaries during engagement and for one year after.
- Maintain high standard of reputation, integrity, absolute confidentiality; no leaking of information/documents.
- Note: The CMD/TNPDCL may waive any eligibility condition(s) in needy/deserving cases.
- The Board of TNPDCL reserves the right to fill or not fill or increase/decrease the number of posts without assigning reasons.

- Use the prescribed application form (Annexure-A) with self-attested photograph.
- Enclose Educational Certificates and Experience Certificates.
