Duties of the Legal Assistant

• Handling case files before the WBAT, the Hon'ble High Court at Calcutta, Consumer Forums and other courts, as assigned from time to time.
• Preparing Affidavits in Opposition and Grounds of Appeal from the statements of facts that the administrative branches supply.
• Holding conferences with Advocates and keeping in touch with the administrative branch.

Age Limit

Not more than 35 years as on 01.01.2026.

Essential Qualification

• Graduate in Law from a recognised University.
• Must be enrolled in the Bar Council of West Bengal.
• Basic knowledge of computer application/operation.

Essential Experience

At least two years of practice in the Calcutta High Court. Experience counts only from the date you obtained the essential qualification, up to the first date of online application.

Selection Process

Selection is based on academic records, proficiency in legal matters and performance at the interview, which carries 5 marks. Eligible candidates will be called for the interview, and its date will be announced later. Marks are rounded off to 2 decimal places. If you are found ineligible at any stage, you will not be called for the next stages.

Service Conditions

• The engagement is on contract basis, at the State Head Quarter.
• The first term is six months. It can be extended from time to time if your service is satisfactory and the higher authority approves.
• Either side can end the engagement with one month's notice.
• The decision of the competent authorities is final, and they may cancel the recruitment process at any stage.

2. Register by midnight on 7 November 2026 and note your On-line Registration Number. The employer will not supply this number later.
3. Upload a proper photograph and signature. If these are missing, the application can be cancelled.
4. Pay the fee online by midnight on 9 November 2026. Once the payment succeeds, the portal takes you back to final submission using your application ID.
5. Complete the final submission by midnight on 12 November 2026. The details must match your original testimonials.
6. Download the form from the "Application Print" option on the portal.
7. Send the print copy, with one set of self-attested photocopies of the documents listed below, by speed post to: Executive Director, State HR Cell, 5th Floor, Swasthya Bhawan-2 Building, Swasthya Bhawan, GN-29, Sector-V, Bidhannagar, Kolkata – 700091. It must arrive by 19 November 2026. The Authority is not responsible for postal delays.
