HPSC Food Safety Officer Eligibility Criteria and Qualification

Candidates applying for HPSC FSO Recruitment 2026 must meet the following essential qualifications as on the closing date, 19.10.2026:

  1. A Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree from a recognized university or institution in one of the following groups of disciplines:
    • Food Technology group: Food Engineering; Food Engineering and Technology; Food Processing and Preservation; Food Processing Technology; Food Technology and Management; Food Biotechnology; Food Plant Operations Management; Food Process Engineering and Management; Food Processing; Food Safety and Quality Management; Process and Food Engineering
    • Or Dairy Technology, Biotechnology, or Oil Technology
    • Agricultural Science group: Agriculture; Agriculture Engineering; Biotechnology; Dairy Technology; Fisheries; Food Technology; Food Nutrition and Dietetic; Horticulture
    • Or Veterinary Sciences, Bio-Chemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Medicine from a recognized university
    • Or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery, Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, or Bachelor of Sowa Rigpa Medicine and Surgery; or any other equivalent qualification notified by the Food Authority with the prior approval of the Central Government
  2. Successful completion of training as specified by the Food Authority in a recognized institute or institution approved for the purpose. This training is given after appointment, and candidates who complete it successfully will be notified as Food Safety Officer.
  3. Hindi or Sanskrit as one of the subjects in Matriculation, or Hindi as one of the subjects in Higher Education.

No person who has any financial interest in the manufacture, import, or sale of any article of food shall be appointed as Food Safety Officer under the Food Safety & Standard Rules, 2011, as amended from time to time. The qualifications for the post are as per the relevant Service Rules, and no claim of equivalent qualification will be considered unless specified in those Service Rules.

HPSC Food Safety Officer Age Limit

Candidates should not be less than 18 years and not more than 42 years of age on or before the closing date of the advertisement, i.e. 19.10.2026.

Relaxation for DSC/OSC/BC-A (Non-Creamy Layer)/BC-B (Non-Creamy Layer)/ESM category candidates of Haryana is admissible only where the posts are reserved for that category. The upper age limit for any category (except ex-servicemen) shall not exceed 52 years, even after availing one or more relaxations.

HPSC Food Safety Officer Salary

The selected candidates for the post of Food Safety Officer (Group-B) will draw a Pay Scale of 9300–34800 + 4200 Grade Pay, under FPL-6 (Cell-1), amounting to Rs. 35,400/-.

HPSC Food Safety Officer Application Fee

The category-wise application fee, payable online through Net Banking, Debit Card, or Credit Card up to 5:00 PM of the closing date, is as follows:

The fee, once paid, is non-refundable under any circumstances and cannot be held in reserve for any other examination or selection. Applications submitted without the prescribed fee, unless fee remission is validly claimed, will be summarily rejected.

HPSC Food Safety Officer Selection Process

Generally, the Commission follows a three-stage recruitment process: Screening Test, followed by a Subject Knowledge Test, and Interview. However, the Commission may also decide to hold the Subject Knowledge Test and Interview directly, without a Screening Test.

If the number of applications is large, the Commission may adopt any one or more of the following methods for shortlisting candidates for the next stage:

  • Percentage of marks in the minimum prescribed educational qualification
  • Percentage of marks in different educational qualifications, with weightage decided by the Commission
  • Desirable qualifications, where more than one is prescribed
  • Higher educational qualifications than the minimum/essential qualification prescribed
  • Higher experience in the relevant field than the minimum prescribed
  • Counting of experience before or after acquiring the minimum/essential qualification
  • A Screening Test and/or Subject Knowledge Test

No claim for re-checking or manual checking of OMR sheets, or re-checking/re-evaluation of Subject Knowledge Test answer sheets, will be entertained. The decision of the Commission regarding the pattern of examination is final and binding on candidates.

How to Apply for HPSC Food Safety Officer Recruitment 2026

  1. Visit the official HPSC website, hpsc.gov.in, and register online using a mobile number.
  2. After successful registration, a URN (Unique Registration Number) will be created.
  3. Log in using the login ID and apply against the advertisement as per your qualification.
  4. Fill in all particulars carefully, including name, parentage, date of birth, category, qualification, marks obtained, and passing year.
  5. Provide your Aadhaar Number or Virtual ID (VID), which is required for Aadhaar authentication during biometric attendance.
