Only domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir possessing the prescribed academic/professional qualification and age are eligible to apply. The application form will be available on the JKPSC website from 1 August 2026, and the last date to complete the online application, including fee payment and document upload, is 31 August 2026. JKPSC Assistant Professor Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for the JKPSC Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026 must be domiciles of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir and must meet the prescribed educational qualification and age limit detailed below.

JKPSC Assistant Professor Qualification

For most disciplines, candidates must fulfil either of the following:

  • Option A: A Master's Degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Differently Abled/PhD degree holders who obtained their Master's Degree prior to 19 September 1991), or an equivalent grade on a point scale, in the concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. Candidates must also have cleared NET conducted by UGC/CSIR, or an equivalent test accredited by UGC such as SLET/SET, OR hold a PhD degree awarded in accordance with UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of M.Phil/PhD Degree) Regulations 2009 or 2016 (subject to specified conditions such as evaluation by two external examiners, an open PhD viva voce, and publication/presentation of research papers). NET/SLET/SET is not required for disciplines in which it is not conducted by UGC/CSIR or similar accredited bodies.
  • Option B: A PhD Degree obtained from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 in the world by QS World University Rankings, The Times Higher Education (THE), or the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

For the Music discipline specifically, candidates may alternatively qualify as a traditional and professional artist with commendable achievement in the subject, who has studied under noted/reputed traditional masters, holds "A" grade Artist status of AIR/Doordarshan, and has the ability to teach theory with illustrations in the discipline concerned.

JKPSC Assistant Professor Selection Process

Selection for the JKPSC Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026 will be made in terms of Rule 45 of the J&K Public Service Commission (Business & Procedure) Rules, 2021, as amended up to date. The process includes:

  • A written examination consisting of a single paper of 3 hours' duration, carrying 120 multiple choice questions. The syllabus is available on the official JKPSC website.
