Eligibility Criteria
- Essential qualification: Degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics & Communication Engineering from a recognised university/institution.
- Essential experience: Twelve years’ experience in relevant discipline in executive cadre in an Industrial/Commercial/Government undertaking.
- For absorption through composite method: Officers holding analogous posts or the post of Superintending Engineer and equivalent posts in the respective discipline of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Department in the scale of pay of Rs.13000-18250 with 3 years’ regular service in the grade in the respective discipline in a Major Port Trust; or Superintending Engineer and equivalent posts with 2 years’ regular service and a combined regular service of 7 years in the scales of pay of Rs.10750-16750 and Rs.13000-18250 in the respective discipline in a Major Port Trust.
- For deputation: Officers holding analogous posts or officers holding post of Superintending Engineer and equivalent posts in the respective discipline of M&E Engineering Department in the scale of pay of Rs.13000-18250 with 3 years’ regular service in the grade in the respective discipline in Government/PSUs/Autonomous bodies will be eligible.
- Selection is by merit and the benchmark in overall grading in the APARs/ACRs should not be below “Very Good”

Selection Process
- The post of Dy. Chief Mechanical Engineer is to be filled by absorption through composite method from officers of Major Ports fulfilling eligibility criteria as per Annexure I.
- Selection is by merit and overall grading in APARs should not be below “Very Good”.
- As per Ministry guidelines dated 11.8.2021 regarding filling up Dy. HoD level posts, a Port official who withdraws candidature after selection by the Services Selection Committee will be liable for debarment from future selection to Dy. HoD level posts in all Major Port Authorities for two years.
- Incomplete applications or applications received after due date will not be considered.
General Information/Instructions
- Applications are invited from eligible and willing officers of all Major Port Authorities possessing the prescribed qualifications and experience as mentioned at Annexure I.
- Applications shall be submitted through the Online Application Portal (OAP) of the Ministry of Shipping (website http://onlinevacancy.shipmin.nic.in) from 08.12.2025 to 06.01.2026; no application submitted other than OAP will be accepted.
- The candidate has to submit the hard copy of the application form uploaded in OAP to his administrative Port for onward forwarding to Mumbai Port Authority.
- Administrative Ports must forward applications, superscribing “Application for the post of Dy. Chief Mechanical Engineer in Mumbai Port Authority”, with all required documents on or before 21.01.2026; no piecemeal/part forwarding will be considered.
- As per Ministry circular, if advance copy of application is received but the application through proper channel is not received within 15 days of last date of receipt of applications, the candidature will not be considered.
How to Apply
- Eligible and willing officers of all Major Port Authorities must apply through Online Application Portal (OAP) of the Ministry of Shipping at http://onlinevacancy.shipmin.nic.in between 08.12.2025 and 06.01.2026.
- After submitting application in OAP, the candidate must submit the hard copy of the application form to his administrative Port for onward forwarding to Mumbai Port Authority.
- Administrative Ports shall forward applications in an envelope superscribing “Application for the post of Dy. Chief Mechanical Engineer in Mumbai Port Authority” along with: (1) Certified copies of APARs for the last 5 years (2020-21 to 2024-25), attested by an officer not below Dy. HoD on each page. (2) Statement showing year-wise availability of APARs and grading, signed by HoD/Secretary, or “No Report Certificate” where APAR is not available. (3) Attested photocopies of all certificates and proof of educational qualification and present/past work experience in respective post and pay scale. (4) No Objection Certificate from the respective Port. (5) Undertaking of the applicant that candidature will not be withdrawn if selected by Services Selection Committee. (6) Administrative clearance (Annexure II). (7) Vigilance report in prescribed format (Annexure III). (8) Details and documents of any major/minor penalty imposed in last 10 years, if applicable.
- Applications received after 21.01.2026 or incomplete applications will not be considered.
