Eligibility Criteria
- Essential Qualification: Ph.D in Physics/Astronomy and Astrophysics/Space Science and/or in a relevant field. A minimum of fourteen years' post-doctoral experience.
- Desirable Qualification: Demonstrated leadership and broad vision in the field of Astronomy and Astrophysics. Experience and expertise to lead major initiatives and capacity building, in particular, in space science research. Evidence of high professional eminence by way of recognitions like fellowships of academies and/or national/international awards in science and technology.

Selection Process
- Through Search-cum-Selection Committee
- The Search-cum-Selection Committee will also consider applications and nominations received from Fellows of the Academies, Directors of National Laboratories and Vice Chancellors of Universities.
- The Search-cum-Selection Committee can consider those who may not have applied for the above post after considering all the applications and nomination and finding that no candidate is suitable.
- The Search-cum-Selection Committee can also invite a person of high repute for consideration for appointment.
General Information/ Instructions
- The candidate must be a citizen of India.
- The appointment is on a regular basis with a probation period of one year.
- All the employees appointed to Institute service on or after 01.01.2004 are covered under the New Pension Scheme (NPS).
- During the period of service, every employee shall be covered under CCS (Conduct) Rules and CCS (CCA) Rules etc.
- The prescribed qualifications are the minimum required, and the mere fact that a candidate possesses the same will not entitle them to be called for an interview.
- Candidates working in Government / PSU / Autonomous Bodies should obtain NOC from the present employer and upload it online. However, applications without NOC will also be considered, provided the candidate uploads a duly signed undertaking that the NOC will be submitted at the time of verification of certificates.
- A candidate holding regular, permanent post in Government / PSU / Autonomous Bodies, who is selected for the advertised position, can opt for pay protection at time of joining which would be governed by existing provisions of the Government of India.
- Candidates should submit applications well in advance, without waiting until the last date.
- The Institute reserves the right to reject any application without assigning any reason. The Institute also reserves the right to cancel the advertisement/ recruitment process at any stage due to administrative reasons. No correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
- The Institute reserves the right to verify the antecedents and documents submitted by the candidate. In case it is found that the documents submitted by the candidate are not genuine, then the services shall be terminated after due process, and disciplinary/criminal proceedings will be initiated against such candidates even after appointment.
- Courts' Jurisdiction: Any dispute in regard to this recruitment will be subject to the courts in Bangalore.
- Disqualifications: No person, (a) who has entered into, or contracted a marriage with a person having a spouse living, or (b) who, having a spouse living has entered into, or contracted a marriage with any person shall be eligible for appointment to the service provided that the Central Government may, if satisfied that such marriage is permissible under the personal law applicable to such person and the other party to the marriage and there are other grounds for so doing, exempt any person from the operation of this rule.
