Qualifications

Selection Process

  • Stage 1 - Preliminary Examination: One paper of 100 marks consisting of 100 objective multiple choice questions with 2 hours duration. 40 questions from General Knowledge and Current Affairs, 60 questions from Physics at graduation level. Minimum 30% marks required to qualify. Candidates scoring 20 times the number of vacancies (category-wise) will be shortlisted for Main Examination based on merit
  • Stage 2 - Main Examination: Consists of two papers:
    • Paper I - General Language Knowledge: 100 marks (50 marks General Hindi + 50 marks General English) of Intermediate level. Objective multiple choice questions. Duration: 1.5 hours. Minimum 30 marks required to qualify. Marks will not be added to merit
    • Paper II - Graduate Level Physics: 100 marks consisting of 100 objective multiple choice questions. Duration: 3 hours. Minimum 33% marks required to qualify. Based on marks in this paper, candidates up to 5 times the number of vacancies (category-wise) will be shortlisted for Physical Efficiency Test
  • Negative Marking: 0.2 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer in both stages
  • Stage 3 - Physical Efficiency Test: Qualifying nature (no marks awarded). All tests must be passed separately:
    • Running: Male candidates (all categories): 1 mile (1.6 km) in maximum 7 minutes. Female candidates (all categories): 1 km in maximum 7 minutes
    • High Jump: Male: Minimum 3 feet 6 inches. Female: Minimum 2 feet 6 inches
    • Long Jump: Male: Minimum 10 feet. Female: Minimum 7 feet
    • Shot Put: Male: 16 pounds shot - Minimum 14 feet. Female: 12 pounds shot - Minimum 8 feet
  • Maximum three attempts will be given for High Jump, Long Jump and Shot Put
  • Failure to achieve minimum standard in any of the four events will result in disqualification
  • Final Merit List: Based on marks obtained in Main Examination Paper II (Physics), successful candidates in Physical Efficiency Test will be selected as per number of vacancies category-wise
  • In case of normalization required due to multi-session/multi-paper examinations, Equi-Percentile Method will be used
  • Medical examination, character verification and background verification will be conducted by appointing authority before final appointment

Physical Measurement Standards

  • Height Requirements:
    • Unreserved and Backward Class Male Candidates: Minimum 165 cm
    • Extremely Backward Class, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Male Candidates: Minimum 160 cm
    • Female Candidates (All Categories): Minimum 155 cm
  • Chest Measurement (For Male Candidates Only):
    • Unreserved, Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class Male: Unexpanded - 81 cm (minimum), Expanded - 86 cm (minimum). Minimum 5 cm expansion compulsory
    • Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Male: Unexpanded - 79 cm (minimum), Expanded - 84 cm (minimum). Minimum 5 cm expansion compulsory
    • No chest measurement for female candidates
  • Weight: Female candidates (all categories): Minimum 48 kg
  • For Kinnar/Kothi/Hijra/Transgender (Third Gender): Gender determination will be done as per identification card issued by District Magistrate under Section 6 of Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2020 in Form-3. Category will be determined accordingly

General Information/Instructions

  • Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) is conducting recruitment for Assistant Sub-Inspector (Operation) posts in Bihar Police Radio (Wireless), Bihar, Patna
  • Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply. Male, Female and Third Gender candidates can apply
  • Reservation will be applicable as per Bihar Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes) Act, 1991 (Bihar Act 3, 1992) as amended from time to time
  • Women Reservation: 35% horizontal reservation for women in each reservation category (keeping intact 3% reservation for Backward Class women). This 35% horizontal reservation is admissible only to original residents of Bihar State as per General Administration Department resolution dated 09/07/2025. However, as per Section 4(3) of Bihar Act 3, 1992, women can also be appointed on merit basis in addition to 35% reservation
  • Freedom Fighters' Descendants: 2% horizontal reservation for grandchildren (grandson/granddaughter) of Bihar State freedom fighters who have been granted pension by Central Government as per General Administration Department resolution dated 03/09/2015. Selected candidates will be counted in their respective reserved/unreserved category
  • EWS Reservation: Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections as per Bihar Reservation in Vacancies in Posts and Services (for Economically Weaker Sections) Act, 2019. Income and Asset Certificate for financial year 2024-25 will be acceptable
  • Transgender Reservation: Kinnar/Kothi/Hijra/Transgender (Third Gender) are included at serial number 47 in Schedule-2 of backward classes list. They will get benefit of reservation applicable to backward classes as per General Administration Department resolution dated 12/09/2014
  • Benefit of reservation applicable only to original residents of Bihar State. Candidates from other states belonging to reserved categories will be treated as unreserved category candidates
  • Candidates working in State/Central Government/PSUs/Autonomous Bodies should apply through proper channel or produce No Objection Certificate at the time of selection
  • During written examination and physical efficiency test, candidates must follow social distancing and all latest instructions issued by administration for prevention from Corona infection
  • Admit card for written examination will be issued online. Information will be provided through newspapers and commission website. Important information may be sent through SMS/E-mail
  • Normally 06 months time may be required to complete selection process. Candidates are advised to ensure their availability for written examination, physical efficiency test and document verification. Request for time extension will not be accepted under any circumstances (family, personal, medical, bone fracture, pregnancy etc.)
  • The appointing authority for Assistant Sub-Inspector (Operation) post is Deputy Inspector General of Police (Wireless and Technical Services)
  • Before final appointment, medical examination, character and antecedents verification of all selected candidates will be conducted by appointing authority as per prescribed rules
  • Candidates must be free from such diseases, structural defects or physical weakness which make them unfit for duties
  • Medical examination will include tests for vision defects, color blindness, hearing power, stammering, flat foot, knocking knee etc. Being found fit in medical examination is mandatory for appointment

    • First registration of candidate will be done where information like name, nationality, mobile number, email ID, Bihar State domicile, reservation category, gender and date of birth will be taken

    • After successful registration, Registration Number and Password will be sent immediately through SMS/E-mail to candidate's mobile phone and email ID
    • Before payment, candidates have facility to "Edit" their details
    • If you have registered with wrong details, you can use "Cancel Registration Form" provision to cancel your registration after payment. However, previously paid application fee will not be refunded and you will have to pay application fee again for new registration
  • Application Process - Part 2 (Final Submission):
    • After successful registration, login with provided Registration Number and Password
    • Fill required information like father's/husband's name, mother's name, address, educational qualification etc. correctly and give consent on declaration
    • Upload scanned recent color photograph (within 2 months old, white background, 15-25 KB, .jpg/.jpeg/.gif format)
    • Upload signature separately in English and Hindi (in black or blue ink, white background, 15-25 KB, .jpg/.jpeg/.gif format)
    • If instructions regarding photo and signature are not followed, online application will be rejected/cancelled
    • After uploading photo and signature, candidates can edit details by clicking "Edit Details" button before final submission
    • Once confirmed and submitted, application details cannot be edited
    • After submission, confirmation message (SMS/E-mail) will be received on registered mobile number/email ID
    • Print acknowledgement of submitted application on A4 size paper and keep it safely for future correspondence
  • Only one mobile number can be used for one application only
  • Only one application per candidate is allowed. In case of multiple applications from a candidate, all applications will be rejected
  • Candidates applying with fake name and address will be disqualified and strict legal action will be taken
