The Indian Air Force invites applications from male Indian/Gorkha (a subject of Nepal) citizens from all States and UTs for Airmen Group Y Medical Assistant trade. Vacancies will be determined based on organizational requirements.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications

For Medical Assistant Trade (10+2 Candidates):

  • Candidate should have passed 10+2/Intermediate/Equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English from Education Boards recognised by Central, State and UT with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and with 50% marks in English.
  • Should have passed two years Vocational Course with non-vocational subjects ie, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English from Education Boards/Councils recognised by Central, State and UT with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.

For Medical Assistant (Pharmacist) - Diploma/B.Sc in Pharmacy Candidates:

  • Candidate should have passed Intermediate/10+2/Equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.
  • In addition, Diploma/B.Sc in Pharmacy with minimum 50% marks in aggregate with valid registration from State Pharmacy Council or Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) at the time of enrolment will be mandatory requirement.

Essential Requirements:

  • Education Boards (for 10+2 or equivalent) recognised by Central, State and UT shall only be permitted.
  • Exact aggregate percentage of marks before decimal as written in the marks sheet shall only be considered (For example 49.99% should be taken as 49% and not to be rounded off to 50%).

Salary/Stipend

  • During Training: Stipend of ₹14,600/- per month
  • After Training: Starting gross emoluments at the minimum of scale of pay including Military Service Pay (MSP) is ₹26,900/- per month
  • Additional Allowances: Dearness Allowances (as applicable), Transport Allowance, Composite Person Maintenance Allowance (CPMA), Leave Ration Allowance (LRA), Children Education Allowance, HRA etc. as per relevant government instructions
  • Perks: Ration, clothing, medical facilities, accommodation, CSD facilities, Leave (60 days annual and 30 days casual in a calendar year as a privilege, subject to service exigencies)
  • Other Benefits: Recreational facilities, transport for school going children, Leave Travel Concession (LTC), Group Insurance Cover of ₹62.5 Lakhs at a premium of ₹3200/- per month
  • Additional Facilities: Group Housing Scheme facility also extended
  • Career Progression: Emoluments may rise as per the career progression of the individual in subsequent years

  • Marital Status: Must be unmarried
  • Date of Birth: Born between 01 January 2006 and 01 January 2010 (both dates inclusive)
  • Upper Age Limit on Enrolment: Should not exceed 21 years on date of enrolment

For Medical Assistant (Pharmacist) - Diploma/B.Sc in Pharmacy Candidates:

  • Unmarried Candidates: Born between 01 January 2003 and 01 January 2008 (both dates inclusive)
  • Married Candidates: Born between 01 January 2003 and 01 January 2006 (both dates inclusive)
  • Upper Age Limit on Enrolment: Should not exceed 24 years on date of enrolment

Application Fee

  • Examination Fee: ₹550/- plus 18% GST (Total: ₹649/-) - Non-refundable
  • Payment Mode: Online via Payment Gateway through Net Banking, Debit Cards, Credit Cards, UPI
  • Appeal Medical Board Fee: ₹40/- (if required) - To be deposited in Government Treasury/RBI/SBI through Electronic Military Receivable Order (e-MRO)/Military Receivable Order (MRO)
  • Refund Policy: Application fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances and shall not be kept in reserve for any other examination or selection
  • Multiple Payments: If multiple payments are received from a candidate against single application, the excess amount will be refunded back to the originating account after closing of registration and reconciliation
  • Multiple Applications: If candidate fills multiple applications, only the application with higher Application Sequence Number will be accepted and amounts for other applications will not be refunded

Selection Process

  • Phase-I - Online Test: Objective type test (bilingual - English & Hindi except English paper)
    • Duration: 45 minutes
    • Subjects: English as per 10+2 CBSE syllabus and Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA)
    • Marking Pattern: +1 mark for correct answer, 0 for unattempted, -0.25 for wrong answer
  • Normalisation of Marks: If required, marks will be normalised to account for variation in difficulty levels across different sessions. Shortlisting will be based on normalised marks
  • Qualification Requirement: Candidates must qualify in each paper separately with normalised marks (if normalisation is applied)
  • Phase-II Testing at ASC: Shortlisted candidates will be called for:
    • Document Verification
    • Physical Fitness Test (PFT-I & PFT-II)
    • Adaptability Test-I (Objective type written test)
    • Adaptability Test-II (As per policy in vogue)
  • Physical Fitness Test Details:
    • PFT-I: 1.6 Km run (Candidates up to 21 years: within 7 minutes; Above 21 years with Diploma/B.Sc: within 7 minutes 30 seconds)
    • PFT-II: 10 Push-ups (1 minute), 10 Sit-ups (1 minute), 20 Squats (1 minute)
    • 10 minutes recuperation time between PFT-I and PFT-II
    • 2 minutes break between each exercise in PFT-II
  • Phase-III - Medical Examination: Conducted by Air Force Medical Team as per IAF medical standards
    • Includes baseline investigations: Blood Haemogram, Urine tests, Biochemistry tests, Chest X-Ray, ECG
    • Any other investigation deemed necessary by Recruiting Medical Officer
  • Appeal Medical Board: Available for candidates declared medically unfit (Fee: ₹40/-). Application must be submitted within three working days of medical examination
  • Final Selection: Based on merit, medical fitness, availability of vacancies, and meeting all eligibility criteria. Separate PSL will be published for Diploma/B.Sc in Pharmacy holders

General Information/Instructions

  • Nationality: Only male Indian/Gorkha (a subject of Nepal) citizens are eligible to apply
  • Marital Status:
    • 10+2 candidates: Must be unmarried
    • Diploma/B.Sc in Pharmacy candidates: Both married and unmarried candidates eligible (different age criteria apply)
    • Unmarried candidates will not be permitted to get married till successful completion of ab-initio training
  • Medical Standards:
    • Height: Minimum 152 cms
    • Weight: Proportionate to height and age as applicable for IAF
    • Chest: Minimum 77 cms with at least 5 cms expansion
    • Vision: 6/36 each eye correctable to 6/6, Maximum Refractive Error: Not exceeding +3.50D including Astigmatism, Colour Vision: CP-II
    • Hearing: Normal - able to hear forced whisper from 6 meters distance by each ear separately
    • Dental: Minimum 14 dental points with healthy gums, good set of teeth
    • No history of LASIK/PRK surgery accepted
  • Body Tattoo: Permanent body tattoos not permitted except on inner forearms, back of hand/palm, and tribal tattoos as per custom. Offensive tattoos prohibited. Candidates must submit two postcard size photographs with tattoo details
  • NDPS Policy: Zero tolerance to consumption of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances. Consumption is a reject criterion
  • Tenure & Training:
    • Enrolment for initial period of 20 years (subject to service conditions)
    • May be extended up to age of 57 years (subject to service conditions)
    • Joint Basic Phase Training (JBPT) at designated Basic Training Institute
    • Trade training of specific duration after JBPT completion
    • Training may be terminated if trainee fails to achieve required standards
    • Candidates not permitted to stay with family during training period
  • Job Specification: Medical Assistant will be trained in nursing and first-aid. Involved in management of medical stores, dispensaries and ward supervision and other Air Force duties
  • Employability: Airmen enrolled are liable to be assigned any duty in organisational interest at the discretion of the Indian Air Force. Trade allotted shall not be changed on candidate's request on any grounds
  • Higher Education: Permitted only after acquiring prescribed skill grade in trade and prescribed years of service as per HRP
  • Ex-Servicemen/Government Employees:
    • Candidates discharged from Indian Army/Navy/other Government organisations eligible if discharged with no adverse entries
    • Must declare ex-employee status at Phase-II and produce discharge certificate
    • Serving individuals must have NOC from employer
    • Candidates discharged from IAF not eligible
    • Candidates debarred permanently from previous IAF exams not eligible
  • SOAFP Certificate: Son of Air Force Personnel (SOAFP) certificate to be downloaded from CASB web portal and brought for Phase-II
  • Identification Requirements: AADHAAR Card mandatory (exemption for J&K, Ladakh, Assam, Meghalaya candidates)
  • Examination Centre: Candidates to indicate five choices for Phase-I and fourteen choices of ASCs for Phase-II, but CASB reserves right to allot any centre
  • No TA/DA: No travel allowance or daily allowance admissible for any stage of selection
  • Mobile Phones Prohibited: Mobile phones/smart watches/electronic devices prohibited in testing areas. Possession will result in permanent debarment
  • Malpractices: Candidates found indulging in malpractices/unfair means shall be debarred permanently
  • Admit Card Restriction: Candidates strictly prohibited from doing any rough work or writing anything on Admit Cards. Will result in permanent debarment
