Eligibility Criteria

Essential Qualification

  • Senior Resident: Any person undergoing residency in a relevant department of a recognised medical institution after obtaining Postgraduate degree in Doctor of Medicine or Master of Surgery or Diplomate of National Board
  • OR Postgraduate medical degree in Master of Science with Doctor of Philosophy in the medical subjects of Anatomy or Biochemistry or Physiology or Pharmacology or Microbiology
  • The Candidates must be fulfilling all the criteria applicable as per "Teachers Eligibility Qualifications in Medical Institutions, 2025 read with MSR/PGMER 2023" as on date of interview

Department-wise Qualification Requirements

Emergency Medicine:

  • Preferential Order-1: MD/DNB (Emergency Medicine)
  • Preferential Order-2: MD/MS/DNB in General Medicine, Anaesthesia, Respiratory Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics
  • Candidates from specialties of General Medicine, Anaesthesia, Respiratory Medicine, General Surgery and Orthopaedics can appear in addition to their own specialty

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation:

  • Preferential Order-1: MD/DNB (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation)
  • Preferential Order-2: MS/MD/DNB in Medicine with Diploma in PMR, General Surgery, Orthopaedics
  • Relaxation extended by five years from date of notification

ICU:

  • Candidate must be registered with State Medical Council/National Medical Commission as applicable, before joining the post
  • Subsequent to selection, candidate has to register with Tamilnadu State Medical Council not later than 30 days from date of joining if not registered at the time of joining

Experience Requirements

  • Candidates with relevant post qualification work experience will be given preference
  • For ICU positions: Preferably some experience in Intensive Care Units

Who Cannot Apply

  • Candidates who have already worked as Senior Resident under 3 years Central Residency Scheme for 3 years are not eligible
  • Total period of Senior Residency should not exceed maximum period of 3 Years

Salary/Stipend

  • Pay Level: Level-11 as per 7th CPC
  • Basic Pay: Rs. 67,700/- per month
  • Total Gross Emoluments: Rs. 1,57,392/- (approximately) for the month of November 2025
  • Allowances: Other allowances as applicable under 7th CPC
  • Revision: Remuneration will be revised whenever there is revision of rates of DA as per ESIC Hqrs. Office in line with Central Government Employees
  • Private Practice: Private practice of any kind will not be allowed

  • Upper Age Limit for Broad Specialties: 45 years
  • Upper Age Limit for Certain Departments: 50 years for subjects of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Pathology, Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine

Selection Process

  • Selection will be done through walk-in interview
  • Aspiring applicants satisfying eligibility criteria in all respects can appear for walk-in interview as per scheduled dates
  • Applications submitted on day of walk-in interview with requisite fee will be scrutinized by scrutiny committee
  • Only eligible candidates will be allowed to appear for walk-in interview before the selection committee
  • In case numbers of applicants are large, selection committee may devise criteria for short-listing which may include holding of a Screening Test
  • If turnout of candidates is more than ratio of 1:10 per post, competent authority may conduct screening test to shortlist candidates
  • Screening test will consist of multiple choice questions in concerned discipline
  • Marks obtained in screening test will not be linked to final selection process
  • Performance of candidate in interview will be sole criteria for selecting candidate for respective post
  • Only those candidates whose documents are verified will be allowed to attend walk-in interview
  • Result will be published on website (www.esic.gov.in/recruitments)
  • Selected candidates will have to join immediately after receipt of offer of engagement

General Information/Instructions

Tenure of Engagement

  • The tenure is for 3 years for Senior Residents subject to satisfactory performance evaluation on annual basis
  • No extension beyond 3 years of the tenure
  • The total period should not exceed the maximum period of 3 Years

Terms of Employment

  • The engagement shall not confer any right or preference for regular appointment
  • Senior Resident already working in any Govt. institution/Hospital shall apply through proper channel
  • No claim for any service benefits like PF, Pension, Medical allowances, Seniority, Promotion etc. will be admissible
  • Private practice of any kind will not be allowed

Security Deposit

  • Selected Senior Resident candidates have to deposit security amount of Rs. 30,000/- (Rupees Thirty Thousand)
  • In favour of ESI Fund A/C No. 1 payable at State Bank of India, Ashok Nagar, Chennai-78
  • Submit demand draft at time of joining
  • If candidate resigns/services are terminated within one year, security deposit shall be forfeited

Contractual Agreement

  • Senior Resident so engaged will be required to enter into contractual agreement on stamp paper of Rs. 100/-
  • Contract is liable to be terminated at any time without assigning any reason after giving one month's notice on either side or on payment of one month's emoluments in lieu thereof

Medical Examination and Joining

  • Joining of candidate is subject to medical fitness
  • Senior Resident so selected will be required to submit acceptance/consent letter in writing before appearing for medical examination
  • Selected candidates will have to join duty on or before the date indicated in offer of appointment/engagement

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Required to attend emergency, floor duty and other clinical duty as assigned by Competent Authority
  • Required to perform duties in other departments as assigned by competent authority
  • Medical Officers required to mark attendance manually as well as on Aadhar Enabled Bio-metric Attendance System (AEBAS) daily

Attendance and Discipline

  • Absence from work for period of fifteen days without proper permission will amount to voluntary abandonment of engagement and automatic termination alongwith forfeiture of Security Deposit
  • Doctors at any time found guilty of any gross misconduct or negligence of duties shall be terminated without any notice or payment in lieu of notice period

Reservation Policy

  • Reservation of posts is applicable as per Government of India Guidelines
  • Rules for Reservation will be implemented as per Govt. of India instructions
  • Presidential Directives on reservation will be followed
  • Seventeen Posts are horizontally reserved for PwD category in identified posts
  • Candidates appointed under PWD quota will be adjusted against vacancy of respective categories of SC/ST/OBC and UR quota

Category Certificate Requirements

  • Candidates applying in OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PWD Category must possess certificate issued by competent authority, valid for admission/job in Central Govt. Institutions issued before date of interview
  • Candidates claiming reservation on grounds of belonging to OBC (non-creamy layer) should submit community certificate in prescribed format vide Govt. of India, Department of Personnel and Training O.M No. 36036/2/2013-Estt (Res) dated 30.05.2014
  • Certificate issued in other formats will not be accepted and candidature will be treated as "General Category"
  • EWS candidate must have EWS certificate as per Govt. prescribed format and valid on date of interview
  • Person who suffers from not less than 40% of disability will only be eligible for benefit of reservation and other relaxations under PWD category
  • Applicant must have valid Disability Certificate issued from competent authority i.e, Medical Board duly constituted by Central or State Government
  • Certificate issued by Medical Practitioner, Hospital or any other Institution will not be considered
