Section-Wise Breakdown

  • Section A: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

Details Count
1-mark Questions 10
2-mark Questions 20
Total Questions 30
Total Marks 50
Negative Marking Yes – 1/3 for 1-mark, 2/3 for 2-mark

This section includes 30 MCQs, where only one option is correct. You'll earn 1 or 2 marks per question, but wrong answers lead to negative marking. Avoid blind guessing, especially for 2-mark questions, to prevent score loss.

  • Section B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)

Details Count
2-mark Questions 10
Total Questions 10
Total Marks 20
Negative Marking No
Partial Marking No

Each MSQ has two or more correct options out of four, and you get marks only if you select all of them correctly. There's no negative marking or partial credit. Choose options wisely — one wrong selection means zero marks even if others are right.

  • Section C: Numerical Answer Type (NAT)

Details Count
1-mark Questions 10
2-mark Questions 10
Total Questions 20
Total Marks 30
Negative Marking No

NAT questions require you to type in your answer using a virtual keypad - no choices are given. Answers may be integers, decimals, or even negative numbers. Since there's no negative marking, it's safe to attempt these even if unsure.

Marking Scheme

Section Type Total Questions Total Marks Negative Marking
A MCQ 30 50 Yes
B MSQ 10 20 No
C NAT 20 30 No

Section A is the only part with negative marking, so be extra cautious. Sections B and C are risk-free but demand accuracy. Understanding this table helps you prioritize question attempts based on your strengths.

IIT JAM 2025 Preparation Tips

  • Start by analyzing the JAM 2025 syllabus for your chosen subject and the exam pattern. Knowing the structure—MCQs, MSQs, and NATs—helps you approach each section confidently.
  • Revise your undergraduate concepts deeply, especially core topics relevant to the JAM syllabus. Focus on conceptual clarity rather than rote learning.
  • Use recommended textbooks and reliable reference material tailored to JAM topics. NCERTs, subject-specific books, and IIT JAM preparation guides are ideal resources.
  • Create a realistic, subject-wise timetable with weekly and monthly goals. Allocate extra time for tough subjects and revise regularly to strengthen retention.
  • Solving past year papers helps you understand the difficulty level, question trends, and time management. It’s a great way to self-assess your readiness.
  • Full-length mock tests simulate the real exam environment. Analyze your performance after each test to identify weak areas and work on them.
  • With negative marking in Section A, accuracy is crucial. Practice solving questions within a time limit to strike a balance between speed and precision.
  • Create quick revision notes, formulas, and concept maps. These are extremely helpful for last-minute revisions before the exam.
  • Check the official JAM 2025 website regularly for updates on admit cards, exam centers, and other important notifications.
  • Lastly, don’t ignore your health. Get adequate sleep, eat well, and take short breaks during study sessions to stay fresh and focused.
