  • MHA Agency I4C Launches 2 Portals to Prevent Cybercrimes and Ensure Justice for Victims - The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) launched two new portals - the Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM) and the Money Restoration Module (MRM) - to streamline direct operational coordination among police forces, banking networks, and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). The update emerged during a high-level review meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the functioning of the national cybercrime helpline 1930. Exam importance: The GRM module addresses complaints from account holders whose bank accounts were frozen, placed under lien, or put on hold due to suspicious transactions flagged during cybercrime investigations; the MRM portal provides a mechanism for victims of cyber financial fraud to seek the return of money that has been frozen or recovered after filing a complaint.   • 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting Adopts 'Indore Declaration' Under India's BRICS Presidency - The 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting was held on 12-13 June 2026 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability (BRICS)."   • GoI Constitutes Search-cum-Selection Committee for National Sports Board (NSB) Under Cabinet Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan - The Government of India constituted a Search-cum-Selection Committee under the chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan to recommend names for the chairperson and members of the National Sports Board (NSB), a key body formed under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025. The NSB will serve as the apex body for granting recognition to National Sports Bodies and ensuring compliance with governance, financial, and ethical norms. Exam importance: The committee includes Hari Ranjan Rao (Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports), Lt. Gen (Retd) Harpal Singh (IOA nominee), Olympic shooter Gagan Narang, and N.   • GeM and CSC-SPV Sign MoU to Expand Procurement Access via 50 GeM Suvidha Kendras (GSKs) - The Government e-Marketplace (GeM), India's National Public Procurement Portal under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, signed an MoU with Common Service Centre e-Governance Services India Limited (CSC-SPV) in New Delhi to improve government procurement access in rural and underserved areas. The MoU was signed by Ajit B. Chavan (Additional CEO, GeM) and Subodh Mishra (SVP, CSC-SPV). Exam importance: Under the partnership, 50 GeM Suvidha Kendras (GSKs) will be established on a pilot basis through the CSC network across Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, UP, Gujarat, TN, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and West Bengal, providing registration, training, and onboarding support to MSEs, women entrepreneurs, startups, SHGs, FPOs, artisans, and weavers. GeM was launched in 2016 to enable transparent, efficient, and inclusive public procurement. 
  • Union Minister Pralhad Joshi Launches Smart Warehousing System to Monitor Real-Time Operations via AI - Union Minister Pralhad Joshi (Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution) launched the Smart Warehousing System for foodgrain storage at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The system is designed to monitor inventory and operations in real time, using AI and Internet of Things (IoT)-based technologies. Exam importance: The system has been implemented across 215 bag-based foodgrain warehouses of the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), with FCI planning to deploy it in an additional 150 warehouses by October 2026; it combines FASTag, ANPR-based gate automation, geo-tagged smart locks, AI-enabled bag counting, and face recognition systems. This is expected to reduce vehicle turnaround time and strengthen compliance monitoring across India's public foodgrain distribution system.

  • Overview of PM Modi's Visit to Slovakia - Comprehensive Partnership and 11 Key Agreements - PM Narendra Modi undertook an official visit to Slovakia from 14-16 June 2026, focusing on strategic cooperation, innovation, and technology partnerships, before proceeding to the 52nd G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains, France. During the visit, PM Modi was honoured with the Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class), Slovakia's highest national award, presented by President Peter Pellegrini in Bratislava - marking PM Modi's 33rd global honour during his 12-year tenure.   • WEF's Energy Transition Index (ETI) 2026: Sweden Tops Global Rankings, India Climbs to 70th - The World Economic Forum (WEF), in collaboration with Accenture, released its Energy Transition Index (ETI) 2026 Insight Report. India jumped 2 places to the 70th spot with an overall score of 54.9 (up 1.9% over 2025), emerging as one of the top gainers in the index. Sweden topped ETI 2026 with a score of 75.3, followed by Finland (74.1) and Denmark (72.6). Exam importance: Global energy transition readiness declined by 0.76% - its first drop in over a decade - despite total energy investments reaching USD 3.3 trillion, including USD 2.3 trillion in clean energy. Other Top 10: Estonia (4th, 70.9), Norway (5th, 70.5), Switzerland (6th, 70.2), Latvia (7th, 70.0), Austria (8th, 69.7), Germany (9th, 69.6), France (10th, 68.3). The DRC ranked last (120th, 39.8). WEF has published the ETI for 16 consecutive years.

  • ADB Partners with Schoolnet India Limited (SIL) for USD 10 Million to Expand Digital Education Infrastructure - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a USD 10 million financing package with Schoolnet India Limited (SIL) to improve learning outcomes in government schools across India. The initiative aims to scale up digital learning infrastructure in 30,000 government schools, directly benefiting 45 million students. Exam importance: Computer laboratories will be installed in at least 1,000 government schools; the programme will establish 58,000 digital classrooms and train at least 56,000 educators in digital teaching methods. The funding includes a USD 5 million loan from LEAP 2 (Leading Asia's Private Infrastructure Fund), capitalised by a USD 1.5 billion commitment from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
  • BITS Pilani and Axis Bank Sign Agreement to Establish ₹100 Crore Innovation Park in Hyderabad - BITS Pilani and Axis Bank Limited signed an agreement to establish the Axis Bank-BITS Industry Research, Technology and Innovation Park at BITS Pilani's Hyderabad Campus, backed by a ₹100 crore CSR grant from Axis Bank, aiming to strengthen India's innovation, deep-tech, and translational research ecosystem.   • RBI Approves 3-Month Extension of Keki Mistry's Tenure as Interim Chairman of HDFC Bank - The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the extension of Keki Mistry's tenure as Interim Part-Time Chairman of HDFC Bank Limited for three months, allowing him to continue until 18 September 2026. He had succeeded Atanu Chakraborty as Interim Part-Time Chairman of HDFC Bank on 19 March 2026. Exam importance: Keki Mistry previously served as Vice Chairman and CEO of HDFC Limited and later as Vice Chairman of HDFC Bank Limited. Separately, the RBI cancelled the licence of Shree Mahalaxmi Urban Co-operative Credit Bank, Gokak, Karnataka, due to inadequate capital and earning prospects and non-compliance with provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. 
  • ACC Approves Saibal Chattopadhyay's Appointment as Chairperson of National Statistical Commission (NSC) - The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of Saibal Chattopadhyay, former Director of IIM Calcutta, as Chairperson of the National Statistical Commission (NSC), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). Alongside him, Shubhabrata Das, Satyendra Bahadur Singh, and Madhavan Mukund were appointed as part-time members to restore the NSC's full operational strength. Exam importance: The NSC was established through a GoI resolution dated 1 June 2005 and came into effect on 12 July 2006, based on recommendations of the Rangarajan Commission (2001); it is structured with a part-time Chairperson, four part-time technical members, one permanent ex-officio member, and a Secretary. 
  • Indian Jurist Bimal N. Patel Elected UN's ITLOS Tribunal Judge for 2026-2035 Term - Renowned Indian jurist Bimal N. Patel was elected as a judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the 2026-2035 term, during the 36th Meeting of States Parties to UNCLOS at UN Headquarters, New York. He will officially take office on 1 October 2026, succeeding Neeru Chadha, whose 9-year term expires in September 2026.   • Indian Coast Guard Inducts First of Six Indigenous Air Cushion Vehicles (Hovercraft) in Goa - The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) inducted 'H-561', the first of six indigenous Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs), commonly known as hovercraft, at its Rassaim facility in Goa, strengthening its maritime surveillance, search-and-rescue, and coastal security capabilities. Exam importance: The ACVs are being procured under a ₹387.44 crore contract signed on 24 October 2024 with Chowgule & Company Pvt Ltd under the Buy (Indian) category; ACVs operate on a cushion of air, enabling movement across water, land, mud, marshes, sand, ice, and beaches, highlighting India's growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing under Atmanirbhar Bharat. 
  • KSSL Unveils Simha 4×4 Light Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle (LAMPV) at Eurosatory 2026, Paris - Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), the defence arm of Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), in partnership with South Africa's Paramount Group, unveiled the Simha 4×4 LAMPV at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris, France - designed for reconnaissance, urban warfare, troop transport, border surveillance, internal security operations, and command-and-control roles. Exam importance: The Simha 4×4 features an ab initio modular design with NATO-qualified components, enabling future upgrades and mission-specific customisation; it supports rapid industrialisation and sovereign manufacturing in partner countries. Eurosatory 2026 is a biennial international exhibition for land and air-land defence held 15-19 June 2026 in Paris.

  • Scientists Discover New Lynx Spider Species 'Hamataliwa mawlyngot' in Meghalaya - Scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and the University of Calcutta discovered and described a new lynx spider species, Hamataliwa mawlyngot, from Mawlyngot village, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya - marking the first recorded presence of the genus Hamataliwa in the state and extending its known distribution across Asia. The findings were published in the journal National Academy Science Letters. Exam importance: It belongs to the family Oxyopidae; the species is extremely small (smaller than a fingernail) and hunts prey using speed, agility, and sharp vision rather than constructing webs, serving as a natural biological control agent for agricultural pests. The discovery expands the genus's known range beyond southern India, China, and Southeast Asia.
