Eligibility Criteria
- Only those candidates who are possessing a University degree are eligible to apply for the advertised posts.
- Candidates must have their name appearing in the list of non-recommended candidates of Civil Services Examination 2024 (CSE-2024) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.
- Candidates who do not fulfill these eligibility conditions need not apply against this advertisement.
Salary/Stipend
- All Section Officer posts are classified as Group B (Gazetted).
- The Pay Level is 8, Cell – 1 in the Pay Matrix, with a pay scale of Rs. 47,600 – Rs. 1,51,100.
- The posts carry usual allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) at Central Government rates as applicable at the place of posting.
- Council employees are also eligible for benefits like reimbursement of medical expenses, Leave Travel Concession, House Building Advance and other benefits as applicable.
- The posts will be governed by the New Pension System applicable from 01.01.2004 as notified by Government of India and adopted by CSIR, subject to rules for those coming from other Government Departments/Autonomous Bodies/PSUs/Central Universities.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: Not exceeding 33 years (as on the closing date of online application).
- Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST): Relaxation of 5 years beyond the upper age limit.
- Other Backward Classes OBC (NCL): Relaxation of 3 years beyond the upper age limit.
- PwBD (Unreserved): Relaxation of 10 years beyond the upper age limit.
- PwBD (SC/ST): Relaxation of 15 years beyond the upper age limit.
- PwBD (OBC): Relaxation of 13 years beyond the upper age limit.
- Ex-Servicemen: Relaxation of 3 years after deduction of the actual military service rendered from actual age as on closing date.
- CSIR Departmental candidates: Relaxation of 5 years.
- Any other category: No age relaxation.

Selection Process
- Applications received in response to the advertisement shall be screened to shortlist candidates to be called for interview in the ratio of minimum 1:2.5 (i.e. 2.5 times of total vacancies of Section Officer, subject to minimum three).
- Shortlisting will be based on total marks (Mains plus Personality Test) obtained by the candidate in UPSC’s CSE-2024 as mentioned in their mark sheet.
- Final selection will be made on the basis of total marks (Mains plus Personality Test) obtained in UPSC’s CSE-2024 and marks obtained in Interview to be conducted by CSIR.
- The Interview will carry a maximum of 350 marks.
- Shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for Interview-cum-Document Verification at Delhi only.
General Information/Instructions
- The applicant must be a citizen of India and must fulfill the essential requirements and other conditions stipulated in the advertisement.
- The prescribed educational qualifications must have been obtained from a University/Institution/Board recognised by Government of India/approved by Government Regulatory Bodies, with the final result declared on or before the last date of receipt of online application.
- Mere fulfillment of eligibility criteria will not entitle candidates to be called for Interview/Document Verification; the decision of CSIR regarding eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications and mode of selection shall be final.
- Applicants working in Government Departments must produce a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from their employer at the time of document verification, failing which their candidature will not be considered.
- Incomplete applications and lack of required certificates/documents are liable to be rejected; any discrepancy between application information and original documents will make the candidate ineligible.
- If any declaration or information is found false or material information is willfully suppressed, candidature may be cancelled at any stage and the person may be liable to removal from service after joining.
- The date for determining upper age limit and qualification shall be the closing date of the online application.
- Officers recruited shall be placed on probation for a period of two years from the date of joining, which may be extended or curtailed at the discretion of the Appointing Authority.
- Officers holding posts under CSIR shall be liable to serve anywhere in India and may be transferred to any of the laboratories or institutes of CSIR or its units/extension centres or CSIR Headquarters.
- CSIR reserves the right to modify, alter, restrict, enlarge or cancel the recruitment process, if necessary, without further notice or assigning any reason.
How to Apply
- Candidates have to apply online only through the official website of CSIR HQRS: https://www.csir.res.in or https://recruitment.csir.res.in from 15 January 2026 (Thursday) at 10:00 AM to 04 February 2026 (Wednesday) till 05:00 PM.
- No other means/mode of application will be accepted and candidates should have a valid email ID kept active till final selection.
- Candidates must scan and upload their photograph, signature, proof of date of birth, educational qualifications (10th onwards), CSE-2024 mark sheets, experience certificates, caste/community and disability certificates (if applicable) and any other supporting documents in prescribed formats.
- Candidates must first register using their UPSC Roll Number, email address and mobile number to obtain a User ID and password, then complete their profile and fill all sections of the online application form.
- After filling all details and uploading documents, candidates should preview and verify the entire application form before final submission, as details cannot be changed after submission.
- Candidates required to pay the application fee must make payment through SBI Collect, select the appropriate payment category, enter details correctly, and upload the e-Receipt in the online application before the last date.
- The physical/hard copy (print-out) of the online application form along with enclosures shall be produced as and when required by the office.
- To avoid last minute rush, candidates are advised to apply online at the earliest; CSIR HQRS will not be responsible for inability to submit applications due to any reason.
